Sony posts a rare loss, with PS2 being the lone bright spot in the forecast ...

Sony claims that the economic slowdown has had no effect on it's videogame business, nor have the terrorist attacks curbed this sort of discretionary spending.

However, despite the PS2's excellent money generating for the company, Sony posted a loss of $352M.

This quarter was the first quarter that the PS2 made money for Sony after six consecutive quarters operating in the red.

This actually bodes well for the entire videogame industry. Videogames and other sorts of diversionary entertainment tend to be where the public goes when needing to escape financial and political worries.
