New GameCube Discoveres

Thanks to IGNCube we now know a couple cool things about the GameCube system.

With its core demographic young children, Nintendo designs its systems to endure a fair amount of wear n’ tear. The GameCube is no different and apparently is built to accommodate the new disc format which replaces the traditional cartridge.

The IGN gang apparently fearing the unpredictable nature of editor of Matt Casamassina put the endurance of their precious new Gamecube to the test. One of the things tested was opening the lid while the game was playing. This caused the game to pause and until the lid is closed. Once it is, the game resumes exactly where you left off. Luigi’s Mansion can apparently even play with the lid open, until it needs to access data from the disc again, at which point it pauses and prompts for you to close the lid.

Those boys even went as far to switch discs mid-pause. In such a scenario, the GameCube recognizes that the original game disc is missing and prompts to put in the right disc. Once it’s in, the game resumes as before. So if you have a disruptive sibling or a crazy pet like Louie the Cat, you’ll find this feature pretty handy!

IGNCube also discovered pressing the Z-button as the GameCube powers up, the GCN logo will animate to the sounds of child play toys, "boing" noises and the laugher of an infant. Pretty cool!
