Why Can't They All Be Like Steven Kent?

by Justin Nation - 2:21 pm EDT
Source: MSNBC

Why oh why can't more of the media have the brains and impartiality Steven Kent seems to possess? See his new article inside.

Moreso than even his previous glowing articles, this new write-up by our buddy Steven Kent shows wisdom lightyears beyond the drivel the rest of the mainstream press has been spewing. While much of the article really deals with the PS2 (and not all in a negative light), the central message of the piece is absolutely worthwhile.

Nintendo E3 goodies for sale!

by Billy Berghammer - 2:08 pm EDT
Source: Ebay

Stop bugging us! We're not selling...but there's people selling their E3 press goodies, and squishy Nintendo GameCubes and GBAs...for a price.

E3 was rather lackluster when it came to swag. In comparison to last year, companies really scaled down the amount of free stuff given to attendees.

Nintendo handed out GameCube attaches to press at the press show. These suckers are very well put together, and are damn slick.

A large E3 special will be hitting cable tonight! Grab some popcorn and Mountain Dew and hit that couch!

At 8:30pm Central Time tonight, Tech TV will be airing a special about E3 2001.

Exactly what they will show is unknown at this point, but it should give you a good general feel of what E3 is all about.

Not that it (cough) will get all that close to the in depth coverage that is on our E3 2K1 CD. :)

No Territorial Lockout for GameCube? GC

by Max Lake - 6:16 pm EDT

We’re moving into HEAVY rumor territory here! Buuuuuut...

We recently got a question from a reader who asked whether or not the GameCube would have a territorial lockout—especially as the GBA does not have a lockout and will interact with the GameCube. Well, we have been skeptical (albeit hopeful) that GameCube wouldn’t have a territorial lockout but we’ve heard one interesting bit that’s worth sharing…

Special Edition Games for the GameCube? GC

by Ed Shih - 5:50 pm EDT
Source: PGC's E3 video

During Friday's one-on-one interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary designer offered the interesting idea of Special Edition games.

During the Q&A session of the N'Gai Croal one-on-one with Shigeru Miyamoto, an audience member asked whether we'd ever see the rumored-to-be-nearly-complete Zelda 64DD or games that were released in Japan only in the other markets. Miyamoto answered that with the new medium, there's a possibility... Read more...

A First Person Adventure from Rare? A secret game was shown behind closed doors and while we didn’t see it & there are not many specifics, here’s what we do know…

During E3, Tendo Box reported hearing about a mysterious Rare game being shown behind closed doors. Apparently, the game is similar to Rare’s previous platformer games, yet in the third-person. TB’s sources also mentioned the game looking very similar to Perfect Dark and possessing a very sci-fi feel to it.

Rick's posted more video clips from E3. Football fans and GameCube enthusiasts, check it out!

Ok, folks ... more video from the PGC trip to E3. First, is Madden 2002 running on GameCube. The game is very early in development, and some of the animations are a bit rough yet, but here you go.

Madden 2002

Next up, here's a shot of the ACTUAL GameCube hardware, in this case, running the Pikmin demo in a surround-sound booth. It's dark and mystical, with a bit of a playful glow. You don't want to miss this one.

Hudson's explosive mascot & champion of multiplayer madness is ready to blow the GameCube sky high!

Today, the Gaming Intelligence Agency posted a story about Bomberman coming to GameCube, a game announcement snuggled in NOA's E3 press materials:

It's difficult to find, but Nintendo's GameCube press material makes a brief mention of Bomberman for the upcoming system. Absolutely nothing about the title is known so far, though it will presumably be developed by Hudson Soft.

Nintendo launch titles list! GC

by David Trammell - 11:39 am EDT

Throughout E³ we continually heard that there would be seven 1st and 2nd party titles by the end of 2001. Now we can tell you exactly which ones they are.

Launch titles

Luigi's Mansion

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Star Fox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet

NBA Courtside 2002

Wave Race Blue Storm

Eternal Darkness

I'm not sure if I believe that Star Fox Adventures will make the launch. It seemed to be less polished than the rest of the E3 stuff, but it may have been those stages only. If I'm not mistaken, they showed the same parts of the game that they showed on the N64 last year.

We have a list of 14 confirmed characters and intelligent speculation on how many and what secret characters you can expect!

At Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference, the first GameCube footage they showed was of Super Smash Bros. Melee. The second half of the clip revealed 14 playable characters, and after playing the game and re-examining the clip, we can give you a pretty good idea of how many secret characters there will be, and who they are.

GameCube & Anti-Aliasing GC

by Max Lake - 4:29 pm EDT

We were a bit unclear about this after seeing some “jaggies” in GameCube games during E3. Now we have answers regarding NGC & anti-aliasing.

We were a bit confused about the look of some GameCube games displaying anti-aliasing in Nintendo’s booth and ran a couple versions of this story before deciding we really didn’t know what the heck was up.

On the final day of E3, we asked NOA’s Thom Leonard about it during our tour of the... Read more...

Where’s Sin & Punishment? RumorGC

by - 1:55 pm EDT

It was listed in NOA’s E3 press materials but not at E3. Billy’s import copy was played by PGC like crazy at the hotel. What’s up this game? Why is Nintendo dropping hints? Leave it to Louie to provide some answers!

Sin & Punishment, a shooting game by Treasure was shown at SpaceWorld 2000 and got lots of positive attention. Although the game’s speech was in English and the gameplay was phenomenal, it has so far only been released in Japan. American gamers are well aware of the game and it was even listed...
