Acclaim Announces Full GameCube Support

The company behind Turok and many other popular franchises will have FOUR titles ready for GameCube's launch, with a total of 12 by August 2002.

Acclaim announced today that it has four GameCube launch titles lined up for November 5: All-Star Baseball 2002, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2, XG3 Extreme Racing, and NFL Quarterback Club 2002. And a bit of bad news for our readers in the upper Midwest...it doesn't look like Brett Favre will be on this year's NFLQC box. Here's the whole press release if you're interested.

LOS ANGELES--May 18, 2001-- Enhancing the breadth and depth of its product lineup for the next-generation gaming platforms, Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. today announced that it would support the Fall 2001 launch of NINTENDO GAMECUBE(TM) with four of the company's premier franchise properties, including, All-Star Baseball 2002, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2, XG3 Extreme Racing and NFL Quarterback Club 2002.

The company has strategically focused its resources on the development of products for the next-generation gaming platforms and to that end, will have invested more than $100 million by the end of this year. Acclaim currently has eight additional titles in development for NINTENDO GAMECUBE(TM) that will be released during its fiscal 2002.

All-Star Baseball 2002

Developed by Acclaim Studios Austin under license from Major League Baseball Properties and the MLB Players Association, All-Star Baseball 2002 has been praised by industry press for its breakthrough graphics and game play. The franchise is widely regarded in the video game industry as the premier baseball series, having been previously selected as "Baseball Game of the Year" by readers of GamePro magazine and honored with Editors Choice Awards from Electronic Gaming Monthly and Imagine Games Network. With the endorsement of four time World Series Champion and All-Star game MVP shortstop Derek Jeter; authentic teams, stadiums, rosters and uniforms; and Cooperstown license, baseball is sure to be a homerun on NINTENDO GAMECUBE(TM).

Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2

Developed by Z-Axis, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to Acclaim's original hit game Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX, which has sold more than one million units worldwide. Exclusively featuring ten time World Champion and 11 time X Games medallist Dave Mirra, and 2000 X Games Champion Ryan Nyquist, the title will allow players to create their own rider, choose their own sponsor and utilize a full park editor to create their own in-game tracks. In addition, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2 will offer eight new fully interactive game environments that are four times bigger than its predecessor's and contain more than 1,500 tricks.

XG3 Extreme Racing

The third installment in the popular XG brand, which has sold more than 1.3 million units worldwide, XG3 Extreme Racing is poised to be the fastest futuristic racing game on the NINTENDO GAMECUBE(TM). Featuring arcade, championship, team and co-operative modes of play, XG3 will offer players more than 12 bikes, 9 circuits and an array of explosive weapons delivering a powerful sonic boom to gamers.

NFL Quarterback Club 2002

Acclaim Sports steps back on to the gridiron this season with the launch of NFL Quarterback Club 2002. Featuring all 31 NFL teams and more than 1,500 players; an exclusive NFL Quarterback Challenge Mode, featuring for head-to-head events, including Speed and Mobility, Accuracy, Long Distance Throw and Read and Recognition; and retired greats like John Elway, Dan Marino and Steve Young, NFL Quarterback Club 2002 will surely score with football fans and gamers alike.
