The man behind Broken Saints breaks it on down about game design.
After we linked to the Nintendorks four (or more) times as they struggled to rebuild & Nintendojo asked us to link to their redesign, I knew it was only a matter of time till everyone started asking for links. So after Mike Sklens linked to the newly established Nchronicles, I nearly flipped my top. 2 days later and they’ve provided me with an excellent reason to send you their way.
The “Flash Masters” at Nchronicles commissioned one very high profile creator to do an editorial, Brooke Burgess of Broken Saints fame. Burgess was also the lead designer on EA’s Beetle Adventure Racing & has some experience in the games biz. In his lengthy (and wise) editorial, we learn of the hardships involved with bringing a game to market – thanks to the big corporations that bring it.
The editorial is called “art in a corporate world” and holds an inside look at the games industry that echoes the unpleasantness of the entire entertainment world. The editorial also makes no mistake about Brooke Burgess’ love & understanding of Nintendo. Therefore, Nintendophiles should find this to be a very enjoyable read.
“For every ‘Brazil’ there are 50 ‘Wild Wild Wests’…for every ‘Tragicially Hip’ there are 100 ‘Backstreet Boys’…for every Simpsons there are infinite ‘Friends.’”
-Brooke Burgess, “art in a corporate world.”
There’s no direct link to the editorial, so just head on over to NChronicles. You can't miss it!
One final thing: PGC will have an exclusive interview with Brooke Burgess regarding Broken Saints going up very soon. I’m really excited about this. Stay tuned!
