Hard Drive Weirdness

This is really strange.

According to Core Magazine, Iomega showed off a peripheral at the recent CES in Las Vegas that can only be described as bizarre: a removable hard drive for N64. I know what you're thinking: "What's the point?" The N64 is way too old to support a peripheral like this, and furthermore, there doesn't seem to be any need for the product anyway; the pictures that Core has from CES show that it plugs into the cartridge slot and has no through port for putting a game on top (like a Gameshark).

The N64 Hard Drive The N64 HD in gold (or is that just the lighting?)

My theory: the product will never be released at all...for N64. I think Iomega might be hinting that they're working on a similar device for GameCube, and this is one way to show it without breaking any NDAs. What's your take on it?
