Mr. Okada talks with Core Magazine about the GBA's capabilities... and more.

Satoru Okada, a general manager at Nintendo, talked with Core Magazine about everything Game Boy Advance, from the handheld's inception to its possible lifespan. Mr. Okada clearly pointed out that plans for the Game Boy Advance existed long before the Game Boy Color was released, in fact he said that the late Gumpei Yokoi envisioned a handheld like the GBA years ago, but both technical and financial restrictions hampered its development.

On the system's capabilities, Okada said that the GBA is capable of creating "pseudo-3D" graphics, yet ideally the system is geared towards 2D gaming. Speaking on behalf of Nintendo Okada assures that they are not pressuring developers to switch their priorites over to the GBA, and is instead letting the market dictate the gradual transition to the next-generation. Nintendo are also expecting similar success with their new handheld and place the lifespan of the system within the range of 8-10 years.
