Will Wave Race show up at "Dolphin"'s launch? Perhaps, according to the Coach...
From the Big N themselves, rumblings of a Wave Race game being considered as a launch title for Dolphin! In the latest article by "Coach" at Nintendo Sports, the following is stated:
Coach sez: A guy from Acclaim made the same observation to me last month. "Wave Race 64 had the greatest water graphics ever, and it was only a first-generation N64 game. Why didn't you guys ever make a sequel?"
Why not, indeed? My best guess is that the folks from NCL couldn't see how they could improve on a game that's so close to perfection. Remember, they pulled the plug on a prospective 1080° Snowboarding 2, allegedly for the same reasons. Given the code name for Nintendo's next-gen home console, we can't think of a better debut Pak than Wave Race Dolphin.
While this may be nothing more than a comment made by Coach as an opinion (and a right one, at that!), there just might be something to this. As far as I am concerned, this is the perfect opportunity to show Nintendo just how much we would love to see a Wave Race sequel hit Dolphin as a launch title.
When I bought my N64 as a Christmas present to myself in December 1996, Wave Race was one of the most desired titles next to Super Mario 64, and no where to be found. It was sold out everywhere. I rented the game a couple of weeks later, and then bought it once stock had been replenished in the stores. Wave Race is a big favorite amongst N64 owners, as even though it was a first-generation title, it showed excellent water graphics, and unparalled wave physics. You really felt like you were hitting every single wave with a JetSki.
I agree whole-heartedly that Nintendo should make a Dolphin version of Wave Race. With what we have been hearing about the graphical capabilities of Dolphin, this would be an excellent title to showcase Dolphins graphics, AI, and framerate capabilities. I have only one small request: When I dive the JetSki under a wave, I want to see fish!
Use the Talkback features of this site, and consider this a petition to Nintendo to bring Wave Race Dolphin to life! They do watch us!
