Weapon triangle? Check. Character count? High. Sword excess? Not so much.

This week's edition of Famitsu has confirmed new details on the upcoming Switch/New 3DS crossover Fire Emblem Warriors.

Among the announcements are four playable characters: Marth (Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon), Chrom (Awakening), and two original characters named Shion and Lian. The game will feature at least 14 playable characters as it promises the "largest selection of playable characters in a debut musou game". A "vast majority" of the playable cast will be from Shadow Dragon, Awakening or Fates, in order to prevent the main roster from being overloaded with sword users. The intention will be to have all types of weapons, including magic and archery, available as well as the traditional Fire Emblem weapon triangle.

According to the article, the game is about 70% complete. It is currently slated for a fall release worldwide on Switch and New 3DS.

That's actually disappointing news for me. I really didn't want them to focus on those three games.

I find it odd that they feel the need to introduce new characters.  They did the same with Hyrule Warriors.  I thought the whole point here was that it's all your favourite characters from such-and-such IP.  Why would the target audience want new "Poochie" characters thrown in?

I think their reasoning for only focusing on so many characters makes sense.  If the weapon triangle is there, it would kinda suck to have like 8 sword users on a 14 character roster.  But it could also be good for people who are only just now getting into the franchise.  They may not be as familiar with characters from outside of Awakening and Fates; although, they may have been introduced to many of them they played the iOS game a lot.

But the entire premise of this game is fan service. Why neglect a lot of the long-time fans by tossing out everything in the middle? Especially when for a large portion of the population (West) their first FE title was FE7.

The call of the moe waifus and husbandos override such sense!

As a fan of a particular Path of Radiance character this news bums me out a bit.

To milk them with DLC?

But that's the thing, I have no confidence that we will get good representation out of DLC.

And the logic that there would be "too many sword users" is silly. Most characters, even the lords, gain access to different weapons later in their games, so they could have been given access to all of their weapon groups.
