A very fishy mode is coming.

Splatoon 2 will be coming this summer with new modes and Amiibo.

Today's Nintendo Direct showed a new mode called Salmon Run, in which four players team up to hunt for eggs that can be cashed in for new gear by killing salmon. A lifesaver mode which serves as a respawn point was also shown.

Splatoon 2 will launch on July 21, along with a new series of Splatoon 2 themed Amiibo. This version's Amiibo can store a clothing set and weapon for easy transport in multiplayer settings.

I'm glad Nintendo thought explaining what a co-op horde mode is in painful, excruciating detail merited a Nintendo Direct.

Hate on the execution of the explanation all you want, I'm super excited about Salmon Run, and I'm looking forward to playing it with friends. While building teams for normal Turf Wars is fun enough, the original Splatoon lacked in variety, and its ranked modes were frankly quite boring.

Did they mention if Salmon Run was online? Because that would be great.

Horde mode is nice but hopefully they still plan to have a single play campaign.

As far as I've seen, no. I want to say that it's a reasonably safe assumption given that this is Nintendo's big online multiplayer game, but you never know.

It honestly had better be.  It's four player, and it'd be ridiculous to have that limited to local play.
