The January 11 Nintendo Network maintenance has already yielded a system software update for the Wii U.

The system software has been upgraded to version 5.5.1. The first update since the August 17/18 update that removed TVii has just brought stability and "improvements to the gameplay experience".

No firmware updates have been applied to the 3DS family, and the maintenance is still expected to continue until 6 a.m. Eastern time tomorrow morning.

Did they improve overall system stability?

Thanks to this update my system is so stable that the world around it seems unstable in comparison. We're walking on shaky ground folks!

Did they make other improvements to enhance the overall user experience?
