Shadow of the Eternals Returns Under Leadership of New Development Studio

The pseudo-sequel to Eternal Darkness is back!

Denis Dyack, the founder of the now defunct Silicon Knights, has opened a new development studio that promises to resume work on the failed Kickstarter project Shadow of the Eternals.

For those that don't know, Shadow of the Eternals was poised to be a spiritual successor to the beloved GameCube horror title Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, which has solidified itself as one of the best games to ever grace Nintendo's purple cube. Last year, Dyack was unable to raise the funds necessary to get the pseudo-sequel off the ground.

However, his new company, dubbed Quantum Entanglement Entertainment, is dedicated to making the game a reality. Not only that, but it looks like Shadow of the Eternals may dip its toe into other mediums, as QE2 aims to create content that spans beyond just video games, bridging the gap between various forms of entertainment.

There's no word on which platforms the game is in development for, but last year's Kickstarter sought to bring it to Wii U and PC.

How long before his new company goes under too?

If Dyack wants to be taken seriously this time (something he has more than proven he doesn't deserve), he needs to release a goddamn game before chasing after the folly that is Shadow of the Eternals. Frankly, a good training wheels assignment for someone who's shown as little competence as he has is an HD remake of Eternal Darkness. His new team needs the experience of shipping a game; he needs to personally show that he is still capable of releasing a game that doesn't suck; and the sooner this fool's errand of a company starts bringing money in, the better.

No, I don't like Dyack. I don't like his ego, and I don't like how much he leeches off his past glories to the detriment of everyone else around him. However, his ego's already tanked one company, so for our sakes and the sakes of the team he's working with now, I hope they're successful. We need more mid-tier developers, and the Eternal Darkness concept was too good to let it die in obscurity the way it has.

I think it's clear at this point Nintendo's not interested in working with him. I'm sure he'd jump at the chance to get Nintendo's production team to work with him and make this a real Eternal Darkness, and it would seem they've passed up several opportunities to do so. Can't say I really blame them at this point.

Bad times make for strange company. If the Wii U weren't crashing & burning, I'd agree with you. But Nintendo seems more willing to do things they've been reluctant to do in the past lately, so I could see them desperate enough to work with Dyack on a quick Eternal Darkness Wii U remake. Yeah, it's not likely, but it's more likely than it would be if things were going well for Nintendo at the moment.

Dear Nintendo,

Please publish and fund this game to completion.
It's the sequel to one of the games that defined the GC, a console loved by many.

Thanks,

I was cautiously optimistic when Shadow of the Eternals was announced last year though the crowdfunding goal was so obnoxious that I didn't believe for a second that it would be met. I thought it might pique a piblisher's interest enough to get made that way despite Dyack's insistence on going the crowdfunding route. My opinion of the project itself is unchanged. I'd be interested in this game if it ever managed to release. However, I have so little faith in that happening unless Nintendo throws Dyack a bone and publishes Shadow of the Eternals itself as an Eternal Darlness sequel. And the only way I see that working out is if Quantum Entanglement Entertainment remakes Eternal Darkness and proves it can release even a remake within a reasonable amount of time. That said, I still don't see it happening.
