Miiverse Support for 3DS Super Smash Bros. Limited to New 3DS Models

Older models will not be able to access Miiverse features while playing the game.

Key Super Smash Bros. for 3DS Miiverse features have been revealed to be compatible with only the New 3DS models coming in October, posters at NeoGAF have discovered.

Players have discovered that trying to enter Miiverse while playing the game will get them an error message. The same goes for those who try to enter the internet browser, as well. The Japanese Miiverse community description of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, however, suggests the Miiverse features will be accessible if playing on New 3DS models.

NeoGAF users have put forward a workaround where in-game screenshots can be saved onto the SD card, then uploaded manually using a PC.

If true, it means the rest of the world will go a minimum of 3-4 months without these features. Any other way you want to gimp the game, NCL?

I suspect this has more to do with hardware limitations on the 3DS. the browser and Miiverse are, i'd say it's safe to assume, the two most demanding things you can do while the 3ds software is suspended.

It is possible that in order to ensure that the game runs smoothly, Sakurai and his team had to disable the use of the browser and miiverse on the standard 3DS so they would have the extra power needed to run those tasks.

If that's the extent of gimping the game, they made the right choice. As long as the game runs smoothly, everything else is secondary. Of course, that still doesn't mean this isn't a bummer. It is, just the one that makes more sense.

I stand corrected. If it means more memory/RAM gets allocated to the game at all times then I'm ok with this. That might be something you want to put in the original article Brian.

It seems like Smash is digging really, REALLY deep into 3DS capabilities.

One of the awesome features i saw on yesterday's japanese stream isability to listen to music... while in sleep mode. You could just use your handheld as a music player listening to Kid Icarus music all day.

I'm pretty sure you could do the sleep mode music thing with the DSi's music app, so it's not that technically impressive.

I don't mind features being restricted to the new system.

I'm not a fan of waiting six months between the release of the game and the release of the new system though.

Listening to the game's soundtrack while in sleep mode (3DS closed) is something no other 3DS games do. That is what's impressive.

I never really use Miiverse anyway.

I thought the 3DS Sound Application could also do that.

it would be impressive in a world where mp3 players don't exist.

What's an emm-pee-three player?

Is that like a cell phone that doesn't make phone calls, has no internet browser or messaging services and doesn't have a camera?

EtopenSeptember 14, 2014

It's a hardware limitation like some of you mentioned.
Just like with Monhun 4, the 3DS requires a reboot after closing the game and can't run another app at the same time.

Well the 3ds can barely run miiverse or a decent internet browser as is so there's that.

Is the the original MH4? Makes me wonder how Ultimate 4 will perform on old 3DS and NEW 3DS. Could be a huge deal for MonHun fans.
