Looking to try out your design on the GamePad?

The original Disney Infinity is now free to download for the Wii U from the Nintendo eShop.

The download will include the full game, plus multiplayer and the Toy Box design area. However, players will still need a Disney Infinity base and figures to play the game.

The download will help players who previously bought the game for the Wii, but want to experience it on the newer system without having to pay again for the game itself.

The next generation of the game, Disney Infinity 2.0, releases on September 23 for the Wii U, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

People should give this a shot.

I'm still not interested in this kind of game, but this is a smart approach by Disney and Nintendo.

Seems like a similar approach to Skylanders: Trap Team with a free Wii U download code packed in to the Wii versions.  However, I'm left wondering - if you just buy the second Infinity game, can you use that equipment on the first game?

I bought a second hand disk and portal (they were bundled together) for my wii u literally a week ago today for $35 because we had the wii version for my wife's wii in the living room...

For the curious, the only used portals you can't buy to use on this are the 360 ones. Because Microsoft.

When I learned about this last Saturday I thought oh this'll be good cause I'm not interested in this game but my daughter has been begging me for it noon stop over the last year. I went looking for cheap used base and figures. What I found was that as of last week, buying the full game brand new at Target (they had it on sale for $30) was cheaper than buying the base and characters used. So I downloaded it anyway because I prefer digital either way, but my daughter is getting a brand new copy of Disney infinity for her birthday.

Does anyone know if you get Club Nintendo points for downloading this?

I downloaded it on Friday and as of Sunday I had zero club Nintendo points
