Pac-Man Revealed for Upcoming Super Smash Bros Titles

As predicted, Pac-Man smashes in.

Pac-Man has been announced as a new challenger for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS at tonight's E3 presentation for the game.

Pac-Man can sort of morph into his classic limbless incarnation during certain moves, but he typically appears in his more modern 3D-modeled guise. He does have retro-inspired attacks, though, employing pixelated fruit and ghosts for some of them. There appears to also be a couple of Pac-Man stages, one themed on the original arcade classic and another on Pac-Land.

Mr. Game & Watch made an appearance in the reveal video, as well, but has yet to be officially confirmed as a playable character in the games.

For more info from the presentation, check the liveblog here or watch the Pac-Man announcement trailer below.

ALRIGHT this PLUS the Mii's now I am hyped I was excited for Mega Man but Pac-Man seals it.

Lots of Namco fanservice.
Pacman cutscenes (Mario, Sonic and Mega Man chasing Pac and then Pac transforms and then HE starts running after them), Galaga ships, Pac-Land level, Xevioux, pretty sure i saw Tower of Druaga tribute...

I think you could make a case for Ryu Hayabusa, too, though to a much lesser extent than Simon Belmont.

As for Pac-Man, his inclusion in Smash Bros. was just about the worst-kept secret in the industry.  As soon as Namdai announced they were working on the game, we knew that character was coming. The only question now is how long it'll be before they reveal the inevitable Tales character.  Hopefully we don't see Heihachi as well. I'm rather sick of him after all the PlayStation All Stars I've played.

I think Sakurai mentioned last year that he wasn't interested in I clouding fighting game characters in Super Smash Bros. because those characters are already known for fighting. I still think a Soul Calibur character would be cool though.

I am slightly disappointed that Klonoa isn't Namco's representative for Smash. His magic ring and turning enemies into bubbles to jump off of would be an interesting mechanic in the Smash universe.

I do like how the Man that is Pac looks, though. Glad to see a greatly varied move set coming from him.

When they finally reveal the inevitable Tales character, I hope it's Lloyd Irving.

"Lloyd Irving's Double Swords Mean Double the Power!"

Lloyd Irving...

God.Damnit. That's probably exactly what they'd write, too.  :P:

I hope they do a level based off of Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures

Now I want Bub and Bob in the game because that would be interesting.  Bubble Pop Smash.

not only the character but the retro levels too make this awesome. I wasn't hoping Nintendo could get me hyped for Smash Bros. this did it, I haven't played since melee.

At least the other Nam-Ban characters can some in as assist trophies.
