Better late than never, and with new Wii U features!

A Wii U version of Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure will release in Japan on July 12.

Originally released in October 2011 in other markets on Wii and 3DS, the Wii U version will feature off-TV play and use the GamePad for puzzle mini games.

The Wii, 3DS, and PS3 versions will also be releasing in Japan alongside the Wii U version.

Wow!  It really took this long for that game to make it over to Japan.

Critics would disagree with you, as would most people who played it.

But its a rip-off! $60 for a starter bundle! then $15 for each figure! add that up and what do u get? alot of money! :@

You realize that you can beat the game with a single figure, right?  You can buy the starter (which has been on sale as low as $30 at times) and never buy another figure and enjoy the vast majority of the game, beginning to end.

How much *you* want to spend on the game is up to you.

WahAugust 04, 2013

true, but there are still a lot of games better than this! ;)

There are a lot of games that are worse than this as well.

You keep jumping from the quality of the game (which is actually pretty good) to the model of the sales for the game.  Are you taking issue with both, or just one?

So, I'll address this complaint right away:  If you do some due diligence, and don't care about the collectable cards/ipad app game codes, you can find plenty of the figurines for well under the original list price.

The game isn't for everyone, but if you like Gauntlet-esque games with a Saturday-morning cartoon motif, it's a really enjoyable experience, and there are worse ways to package DLC than figurines that not only act as a way to activate a character in-game, but also as the means to save your character's progress, and the ability to bring it over to your friend's place.

Skylanders is used as easy fodder to complain about the gouging people, but it's a game that gives you a lot at the lowest entry level, and lets you decide how far down the rabbit hole you want to fall.

All the reviews i've viewed, other than this one rate all skylanders games as bad.
Plus i am pretty pissed about the fact that people call this a spyro game, the last one came out ages ago and they should leave it at that!

So, as much as I hate using metacritic as a gauge, at first glance, the reviews aren't that bad.

It's only a Spyro game in the sense that Activision tacked Spyro's name for brand-name recognition as a new franchise.  it clearly doesn't need it now, given the booming success of the series and them not using Spyro in the title.

Personally, if you're not interested in the game, I'd try to not care as much about how good the game is, how much of a ripoff it is or isn't, and how Activision decides to use the Spyro character.  Activision could use Spyro in a terrible fighting game or anime, and it wouldn't affect the quality of the original PS1 games.

Yeah... I have to say, virtually every review tends to rate them "Average" at worst - and average isn't bad.  It's average.

As for the "Spyro" complaint... I suggest you look at what the creator of Spyro says about Skylanders.  He has nothing to do with the property now, but says something along the lines of it being the best Spyro games since the originals and that he really enjoys them.

That really shouldn't be considered an accomplishment.

I grew up with a PS1 and Spyro but i have come to realize that the Spyro that I knew in those days will likely never return. Does this sadden me? Absolutely. But I do not hold that against the Skylanders franchise.

I cherished every moment I had with those games. I still do. But I eventually I began to come to terms with the fact that Spyro's PS1 days had come to an end, and I knew that no end would be good enough. Because it would be just that, an end...

Ted Price, creator of Spyro, regarding Skylanders:

Quote:

And finally, for fun, Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventures. Why bother with all this social and mobile nonsense when we’ve already discovered the real future of gaming?

We have it at home. My kids are really into it.

It’s wild, right? I feel like Child Me’s mind would have exploded at the mere thought of it.

I’m really happy for the franchise, because – when we walked away from it years ago – I was disheartened by the follow-ups to the games we had made. And now, to see it back with a fairly innovative concept is really rewarding for those of us who were on the first three Spyros.

I'm pretty sure he's came out in favor of the Skylanders games on several occasions.

Giants I say isn't that great of a game but, both of the Original games are a blast.

I know we've already tread this ground, but I disagree with the notion that Giants is anything but a giant improvement from the original, and brought the franchise from "good" to "great".
