The blue blur's latest adventure is coming exclusively to 3DS and Wii U.

Sonic Lost World has been announced exclusively for Wii U and 3DS at today's Nintendo Direct.

One screen was shown that features a planet in the clouds that is made up of floating hexagons. Sonic and Tails are flying towards the planet in a biplane.

Part of a worldwide partnership between Nintendo and Sega, nothing else is known about this title, and no release date has been revealed.

Talkback

We can see Sonic and Tails flying in the tornadoe as well. I wonder what this partnership really means? What did Nintendo do other than get it exclusive? Either way Sonic has been on the up and up lately, so looking forward to this at E3.

CaptainK.923May 17, 2013

Yay! I can't wait until it gets delayed so it can be ported to other systems!

CaterkillerMatthew Osborne, Contributing WriterMay 17, 2013

If its really a partnership, I'm thinking this one will stay exclusive. Hope its coming out this year with co-op Sonic and Tails and no dumb gameplay styles.

BlkPaladinMay 17, 2013

The way it was words makes me think a few things.
1) Nintendo is lending a hand at developing the game. (If you look at the picture it does have a galaxy feel.)
2) There is going to be more then one game out of this partnership.

It could mean that Nintendo has secured the new games in the franchise for the time being. It was actually worded poorly but it was Iwata saying it in English. I'm sure there are people in the media trying to get clarification on the partnership.

Lost World means Dinosaurs, right?

Ha! Nicely played.

So Nintendo is helping with a Sonic game? That means a Sonic game might actually be good?

Is that irony? Or is it just funny?

Evan_BMay 17, 2013

The whole "worldwide exclusive partnership" thing Nintendo seems to be playing up with this title implies that Sonic: Lost World will probably stay on Wii U. I mean, it's not the first time we've had a Nintendo-exclusive Sonic title, but they seem to be emphasizing that it's a collaboration between the two companies.

Let's hope it continues the trend of recent Sonic games being... you know, good. Ah, who am I kidding? I'll buy it anyway.

AdrockMay 17, 2013

Looks like Sonic isn't getting cut from Smash Bros.

SonofMrPeanutMay 17, 2013

Yes, you are seeing this correctly.  Someone started a petition to end the exclusivity deal.  As if I didn't get enough laughter from that mere fact, try reading some of the signature messages.

Sometime I hate the internet age we live in...

Can i just make a petition for them to end their stupid petition?

Ian SaneMay 17, 2013

I'm blown away that anyone who was old enough to play the original Sonic games when they were current still gives enough of a fuck about Sonic to want these games but is not such a hardcore Sonic bumboy that they wouldn't buy a Wii U for them.

With this and Bayonetta 2 you would figure that the Wii U has enough games that people are pissed off about being Wii U exclusives that they would now have enough games interesting them to justify a Wii U purchase.  In the past if games you were interested in went exclusive to another system you followed the games and it influenced your console purchase.  I guess this just shows how unpopular the Wii was with core gamers in that the presence of "their" games on the Wii U doesn't give the Wii U credibility but rather tarnishes the games.

Can I start a petition to end Pikmin 3 exclusivity? ;)

"Pissing U off.  Wii U.  Wii Do not Discriminate."

Maybe if Generations sold better than it did things would be different. Oh F'ing well.

I can't believe people still petition crap like this. This guys must be under 18 or a super loser, I was an idiot teenager once too, I signed the petition to make WW realistic.

Freakin teenagers man, no good to no body.

But where will all our adults come from in the future!?

My favorite part of that petition was the goal of 200 signatures. That was the number they were striving for. That made my morning.

A cynic might say that 200 signatures represents a supermajority of the Sonic fanbase.

SEGA has shot themselves in the foot over this one. I've been fighting the good fight for over a decade now helping Sonic reach popularity on consoles. I bought 15 new copies of Sonic The Hedgehog On the Xbox 360 (because that's the company SEGA publicly supported at first, not the PlayStation who kicked SEGA out of the market in the first place) to support the blue blur. 15! That's just the one game. Over the course of these last few years, I've purchased over 150 brand new Sonic games to help them win this battle. I didn't regret that money before because it was done in the name of service. When SEGA was forced to make Wii games, I looked the other way. I allowed you that free pass so you could give them horrible titles and steal all of the Nintendo fan's cash so you could make better games for us. It is clear now that I'm the only one who gives a shit about the war anymore. SEGA isn't about sticking it to the man anymore. It is NO LONGER ABOUT VALUES.

Now Nintendo has stolen everything we've loved and cherished: The Blue Blur. Within years, Nintendo is going to retcon the entire Comic and TV series out of existence just like they with their own games. They're going to take everything that us fans have worked for years to build and ruin it. Good Bye SeGA, you just jumped the Orca.

Yes! Let the anger flow!
Seriously though, that's it for humanity we are done for. Pack it up and just hope some meteor decimates us all.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but "x has shot itself in a foot" is a famous meme coming from NeoGAF, when someone wants to make up retarded meltdown they always include something about shooting in the foot and being expert in japanese culture.

Turning Sonic into a Nintendo exclusive franchise is a serious slap in the face. With Sonic (2006) we got a glimpse of a hopeful future for our beloved childhood friend in a gaming world full of rich textures and high polygon models, and with Sonic Generations, SEGA made a statement to the entire gaming world that no fan who grew up supporting their company and even starting schoolyard fights over their beloved blue versus that fat red plumber. When I have my kids hopefully over the next 10 years, their first games will be whatever modern port of the classic genesis games were so they learn the majesty of what SEGA was, and how simple it is to make someone happy by acknowledging simple genius mechanics, like the addition of the spin dash or the effect shields. As for the arguments that Sonic belonged on Nintendo for their port of Sonic Adventure, I proudly point out the availability of these games on Xbox LIVE made my 360 purchase well worth the cost of the console just to play those nostalgic titles from my  youth. Although not historically recognized by the wide gaming community as a good game, Sonic (2006) was a beautiful gift from the SEGA Corp. showing the resilience and spirit all of us who were faithful to our favorite hero, and with critics aside, presented a rich world of beautiful texture and depth no Sonic game a the time had the technical ability to produce. And with Sonic Generations, fans of all ages, newcomers discovering our lightspeed hero for the first time and veterans of the ever escalating war with egghead were given a hearty reminder of why we fell in love with this cocky cobalt Erinaceinae, many of us from his start in '91 and shown SEGA hadn't forgotten us by making it available to the entire world through whatever console we prefer to have. Nintendo has a proven track record of being behind the power curve and catering only to the younger audience, being a child's company and for the most part ignoring a major portion of gaming revenue from the original soldiers of NES vs Genesis wars. Playstation and Xbox owners love their consoles, as do PC gamers love their rigs, and all of them view the WiiU as inferior. it's market caters to the young and naïve, whereas the other three major settings continue pushing their hard and software to the graphical limits, mass marketing to all age groups with everything from Call of Duty and Assassins Creed for the mature audiences to The Avengers and Sonic... oh wait, I forgot about how SEGA is making plans to deny 3/4 of the market from continuing the adventures of our hyper active insectivore. I'm not buying a WiiU just to pay another $180 for my childhood hero. Instead, I humbly request you not allow the bastard plumber to triumph over his only real competitor through eternity and continue with the same spirit of loyalty to your fans and supporters that was showcased in Sonic Generations. Encompass that magic to continue producing worthwhile tales of adventure with essence of speed and allow the world to hear your battlecry: SEGA does what Nintendon't.

Though no longer producing hardware, the bastard plumber must never dethrone our champion!

Gamers are so tribal no? I am very much only in the Nintendo camp, but I was never ever like that. Not with Soul Calibur 3, not with Sonic Generations or anything. I mean I was upset, but this is the kind of hate that runs on extensive amounts of energy.

And now with twitter and the rest of the internet all the ugly things man kind is capable of that we used to think didn't exist have voice through social media. Still it's great for laughs!

So whats the next franchise that rest of the gaming world goes kong s*** bananas for? I have a feeling a new one is coming for E3. Hey let's make a game out of it! Please please please! To late starting a thread now!

pokepal148Spencer Johnson, Contributing WriterMay 18, 2013

can we play fallacy bingo with that thread?

SarailMay 18, 2013

I'm right there with you, Cater. Social media has especially made the negative folks come out of the bushes. It's a bit absurd.

I, too, really hope another big name third party game gets announced as exclusive for Wii U. Not to deter from Sonic: Lost World discussion, but part of me hopes that it's either Final Fantasy XV or Kingdom Hearts 3. That'd be a colossal megastorm of fury all across the internet.

But yeah, that Sonic: Lost World. Count me in. If this is Sonic Team getting help from Nintendo devs to make an awesome Sonic game, then I'm quite looking forward to what this could turn in to. The lone screenshot of a Super Mario Galaxy-esque  planetoid gives me hope. So, who knows? Should be interesting to see it progress.

pokepal148Spencer Johnson, Contributing WriterMay 18, 2013

final fantasy XV on 3DS makes more since, and it will cause a bigger firestorm so :D

Hail23May 22, 2013

I am a Sonic and Nintendo fan, so for me to have his games on a Nintendo System doesn't bug me one bit because it is PURE WIN!
