Another DS game shows up on the project funding service.

Developed by Island Officials, Orion's Odyssey: A Pattern Blocks Adventure can now be backed through the game's official Kickstarter page.

Orion's Odyssey is a Nintendo DS game that is the spiritual successor to the puzzle game Hands On! Tangrams. The game takes familiar characters and concepts from its predecessor, improving upon them through the feedback the developer received. Island Officials has had trouble finding a publisher willing to support their game and has now turned to Kickstarter for the funds.

A publisher is willing to release the game physically, but only if Island Officials covers all the costs of the game's production. To do this, the developer is attempting to raise $85,412 by May 19. As of this writing more than $4,000 has already been raised. Orion's Odyssey is already complete, so if the project is funded, no more development time will be necessary.

Wait, why even get a publisher if the developer has to pay for all of the production cost anyways? Couldn't they just publish it themselves and keep more of the profits?

I guess in this case it's more like they got themselves someone who has a relationship with a network of distributors and retailers (you know, the people who will actually put the game on store shelves) as well as previous know-how in bringing a game to market and an official relationship with Nintendo as an official publisher (since I bet not just anyone can put in an order for X number of cartridges).
