Talkback

You know at this point I can't complain about not getting news from Nintendo often enough. These surprise Nintendo Directs are the best!

ShyGuyJanuary 22, 2013

I hope we get a firm release date for Aliens.

azekeJanuary 22, 2013

"06:00 PT/09:00 PT" is a typo, I assume.

CericJanuary 22, 2013

Wii U Mini for Canada.  Does not support Gamepad.

Seriously though, unless they have purposely been hiding that all these game that have been announced for other platforms are indeed coming a little ahead for the Wii U or that Pokemon X/Y is going to have Z which is a console version with Monster Hunter style connectivity and being able to play through with friends I can't see anything super hype worthy.

I should have Broodwars record live impressions...

ChiramiiJanuary 22, 2013

F-Zero U or bust.

ShyGuyJanuary 22, 2013

I think people hoping for unannounced games are going to be disappopinted. This will probably only cover known games.

Evan_BJanuary 22, 2013

They said "new games". So that's what I expect.

Fatty The HuttJanuary 22, 2013

Prediction: Reggie will try out his new 2013 catchphrase "This year, it's all about the games." He will personally say it twice and someone else will also say it once.

Also, Lego City Undercover will get a firm release date, which will make me happy.

shinyray01January 22, 2013

I wonder what fruit/vegetable they'll feature next.

FjurbanskiJanuary 22, 2013

Yeah, let's keep the hype meter low for this one guys. I love Nintendo Directs as much as the next guy, but we can't expect Pokemon X/Y level reveals for all of them. So don't be disappointed when no new games are announced.

EDIT:

Checking around, the word on street is in fact that there will be new games announced. According to Siliconera and the Nintendo UK twitter page. Still, do they mean brand spanking new, unannounced games? Or games that haven't been released yet, therefore are still new? who knows...

ShyGuyJanuary 22, 2013

I think the "new" game will be RE:Revelations coming to the Wii U.

Hey man, if you want to do a live impressions show tomorrow, we can do it. Just remember, you have to edit it.  :P: :

Nice of Nintendo to realize 3 months after launch that they'd better actually talk about Wii U stuff.

Mop it upJanuary 22, 2013

I think they may date the announced games that have no dates yet, and hopefully they announce at least one new game. For the services part, we might see something about the new Virtual Console.

Kytim89January 22, 2013

Tomb Raider will be announced for the Wii U.

I know this is nitpicking, but to be fair, it's only been 2 months since launch.

Personally, I would be perfectly happy getting solid release dates for already announced games.  I want as many announced games out before E3 so that Nintendo can't pull a fast one and repeat games they already talked about at last year's E3.

Luigi DudeJanuary 22, 2013

I imagine we'll finally see some new footage of The Wonderful 101, since they haven't shown anything new since the September conference.  I also think we could see some Bayonetta 2 footage since they showed a teaser trailer in September, making an actual gameplay footage trailer possible now.

Ian SaneJanuary 22, 2013

So Nintendo is going to make all their new announcements using Nintendo Directs and then they'll just repeat the same stuff at E3 and the fans will be pissed and Nintendo will have no idea why.

I like Nintendo news.  Their old approach of constantly keeping their fans in the dark was not much fun, particularly when there weren't much games coming out and it was kind of important to let their fans know that their Nintendo system wasn't going to be an expensive paperweight.  Though at the same time I would prefer if Nintendo was a little more traditional in how they release it.  The "surprise, here's a Nintendo Direct!" method isn't the most convenient since it's pretty random when they occur.  Also they conveniently sidestep the videogame media this way.  No one can ask follow up questions if Nintendo just releases their video and then hides back in their ivory tower.  Hell, these days Nintendo interviews THEMSELVES.

I like when Nintendo is creative with games and hate it when they are creative with pretty much everything else.  Creative games on otherwise conventional systems with conventional controllers and online services and conventional communication with the gaming media and their fans is what I really want.

After Pokemon X/Y being such a cool announcement I imagine something considerably less interesting this time around.

March 18 was announced last week, fyi.

I'm looking forward to your live reactions Squidward.

Also has anyone else seen that Monolothsoft photo on Twitter?! It's like an epically crashed space ship! I keep hearing that its new.

Hate this stupid IPad, can't post crap or type right.

YmeegodJanuary 23, 2013

Most likely no "new" news.  Just an update, Nintendo's going mention RE and NFS ports and I think they are going try to nail down some dates for Aliens, Pikmin 3, ect.

Might have a few announcements for eshop/vc/ect and another update to WII U OS (most likely adding for fixing TVII).

Ian SaneJanuary 23, 2013

Wait, so this was actually full of new stuff?  Okay, Nintendo, what's up with this exceeding expectations nonsense?  This isn't 1988. You're supposed to have no idea what you're doing.

ShyGuyJanuary 23, 2013

I was wrong!

TrueNerdJanuary 23, 2013

Aside from that Wii U Virtual Console upcharge nonsense, Nintendo killed it this morning. Credit where credit is due. Today did more in making me want a Wii U than anything they've done yet.

But I swear to God, if they don't bring GBA games to 3DS Virtual Console, I will riot.

I have to disagree.  All these items I predicted at one point or another Except the Mii Party and Yoshi Yarn.

Not in and of itself.  It was the First half of Miiverse stuff that made it lame.  Honestly this presentation would have benefited from some basic essay reals.

1st Part: Second strongest stuff
2nd Part: Weakest
3rd Part: Strongest

In this case I would have put Miiverse in the middle.  Games we've seen plus Bayonet in the front and Zeldas and Marios in the back with Xenoblade 2 or WW ending the Direct.

TrueNerdJanuary 23, 2013

I didn't watch the presentation. Couldn't give less of a shit about that. The stuff they announced is exciting.

ShyGuyJanuary 23, 2013

Mech-XenoBlade2-MonsterHunter was a strong finish
