The Wii U version has five hours of additional content from the get-go.

Darksiders II will be fully playable on the Wii U GamePad and will support all past and future downloadable content, a THQ representative stated at the Wii U preview event last week.

The developers at Vigil Games had previously discussed their intentions for the GamePad for this new edition of the post-apocalyptic action-adventure, but this event was the first time the controller functionality was officially shown off.

When the action is viewed on the TV screen instead, the GamePad will then be used to streamline the interface, displaying a world map or an inventory screen that allows the player to switch between the weapons, armor, and abilities of the protagonist, Death, on the fly. In addition, the GamePad provides optional motion controls, enabling the player to perform Death's dodge maneuvers by quickly flicking the controller in a given direction.

As regards to the DLC, the Wii U version of Darksiders II will include the "Argul's Tomb" pack, already released for the game's versions on other consoles, as well as all the retailer-exclusive pre-order bonus quests and items that came with those versions. This is said to add five hours of content to the main campaign. It was also confirmed that the yet-to-be-released "Abyssal Forge" and "Demon Lord Belial" packs will eventually be made for sale on the eShop.

Darksiders II is one of more than a dozen titles launching with the Wii U in North America on November 18, and will be released in other markets during their respective system launch windows.

Given that the PS3 version has a 1-2 second delay while switching between inventory/status screens (which is really irritating), I'm curious how much quicker this works in the Wii U version with the information on the GamePad.

Can't wait. This one's day one for me.
