Prepare to face an extreme ninja challenge, this time with save state functionality.

Ninja Ryū Ken-Den, known as Ninja Gaiden in the West, is coming to the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console in Japan on August 29 and will retail for 500 yen.

The game, which is the Famicom version, was originally released in 1988 in Japan for Nintendo’s home console. Ninja Gaiden puts you in control of Ryu Hayabusa as he uses his ninja skills to avenge his murdered father.

There is currently no release date for the title on Virtual Console outside of Japan.

"this time with save state functionality."

Haha. That would help so much! =P

I can honestly say I used to be able to beat NG2 back in the day.  But I never beat NG1 or 3 without good ol' GameGenie =P

To be fair, I never owned those games so I didn't have enough time to master them.... I only rented them.  But those two are just tougher anyway, right?

Anyway, I might seriously consider this when it hits NA.

When I was a kid, we rented Ninja Gaiden from time to time. Of course, I never beat it back then. I picked it up when it came out on the Wii VC, but, same thing. Never beat it. With save state functionality, I might actually be able to beat it this time!

It would be cool if they finally brought Ninja Gaiden 2 to Europe, as we never got that on the Wii Virtual Console.
