Iwata stands on high and answers some eShop-related wishes.

The Nintendo eShop will be accessible through the internet on PCs and smartphones soon, according to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata during the latest Financial Results Briefing.

Initially, the eShop will only be able to be browsed, with QR codes displayed, which can be used to quickly access the corresponding page on the 3DS using the system's camera. Eventually, purchases will be able to made directly from the web. Iwata hopes having the system available on the web will allow integration with social media.

Iwata also revealed more information about the eShop that seems to respond to a lot of people's complaints.

Publishers will be able to present limited-play demos soon. The exact restrictions of the demos was not clarified, but he mentioned a "limit on the number of trials." Additionally, the next system update, in November, will allow developers to post downloadable content (DLC) to the eShop, which can enhance previously downloaded software.

Lastly, users will be able to queue software downloads, which can then be performed in sleep mode, which is especially useful for larger titles.

Very awesome, now if they only allow you to pay the exact cost. I don't mind if there is a $5 minimum like on PSN but it's annoying to see a couple of cents left over almost every time.

This is huge, if they can get it out there quickly.

Though the best thing about it is that you can buy through a PC and the 3DS downloads through sleep mode. So when it's all implemented, you can buy stuff from a PC similar to Xbox.com, queue it up and your 3DS downloads while its connected to the internet while sleeping, so when you're ready to play your 3DS you will have the games already downloaded and ready to go. Also, this means an account based system is a requirement, I have a feeling that it would go through your club nintendo account.

Account based system or bust.

Iwata made a lot of comments about embracing online, so he better get it right the first third time.

Would integrating Paypal into the eShop be a good idea? All I would have to do i deposit my money and buy all th suff that I want.

To hope, to dream...Please get this right Nintendo :-[

I honestly was very pleased with the eShop, so all this is just the love making on the cake.

Paypal is NEVER a good idea.

Kytim89October 28, 2011

@ Shaymin

Why is that?

JDEOctober 28, 2011

I have pretty much vowed to never use PayPal again.  I bought what I thought was a legitimate copy of Metroid Prime Hunters off of Ebay.  When I got it, it was obviously a fake, so I reported it.  I was told to send it back to the address from which it came and to provide tracking information.  I did so after taking lots of pictures, and I even made a Youtube video.  I tried contacting the user through Paypal multiple times, so everything is on record, but I don't remember them replying even once.  Anyway, after like a week or two, I get an e-mail about the ruling.  THEY RULED IN FAVOR OF THE SELLER.  Apparently, the tracking information was bad.  They didn't even ask for a confirmation or anything, and I was unable to appeal the ruling.  3 months later, the package came back to me because "they" never picked it up.  So, I'm out 20 bucks, and I'm stuck with a fake copy of Hunters......

That's just my two-cents on PayPal......

Don't waste time with PayPal - go straight to your credit card company and file a dispute...

Anywhoo - sleep mode downloads!  YES!

Having an browser based shop where you can queue downloads to start on your 3DS would be hot.
Would make entering credit card details etc a lot easier....heck this is one step away from having an account based system that we all want! Good going Nintendo, keep it up with this thought process, you're getting there!

I also personally hope they call it eShop on the Wii U and make this a universal account thing.

NintendoFanboyOctober 28, 2011

Its nintendo, so u will probably have to put in ur 3DS's serial # every time u want to Que a purchase.
Keeping accounts is too risky for the children.

CericOctober 28, 2011

*shrug*
Club Nintendo already keeps your serial and all that jazz.

BlackNMild2k1October 28, 2011

I don't see how it is gonna work if there is no centralized account.

You go to eshop.nintendo.com
find the game you want
log-in to your account
select payment method
queue is started

how else will the purchase tie to your 3DS and start downloading?

Oh, I'm sure they'll come up with something. You'll probably have to also have your 3DS turned on at the time, and have to submit a blood sample each time.

That will appeal to the the non-gamer.  Full vitality sensing equipment to allow your doctor to know and provide preventative care.

I'm sure that could do paternity tests too. Fun for the whole family(?).

Pregnancy tests as well.

To be honest if I could have a piece of software that could just prick my finger and check if:

1) Blood Sugar
2) Red blood Count
3) White Blood Count
4) Cholesterol
5) Other common blood tests

Take my weight and height.  Check my temperature, I'm fairly sure Kinect could with some tweaks.  Just give me a quick run down of how I'm doing with those common markers would be great for informing me if I should see a doctor.

Yeah, this update is a very big step and it shows that Nintendo has finally figured out what they have to do.

famicomplicatedJames Charlton, Associate Editor (Japan)October 28, 2011

Didn't they mention using barcodes at first, then moving on to another method later?

What I extrapolated from what they said in the briefing was,
-the eShop will have a "barcode scan" button added, so you purchase something and be presented with a barcode.
-you scan in the code on your 3DS and it starts downloading, you will also be able to close your 3DS before it's finished and it will continue downloading.

Exciting when they said it would be useful for "large downloads". Full retail games? Massive Shop games?
Can't wait to find out.

Hopefully, the limited-play demos mean that they are available indefinitely as opposed to WiiWare demos which are generally up for only a month.

CericOctober 28, 2011

I actually hope they mimic the Phone 7 model.  Everything has a demo or is free.
