Not long now until the great escape!

Australian based developer, Nnooo, has announced that their new Wiiware game will be launching on September 29, 2011. The game will be released in all regions excluding Japan, and is set to be priced at 500 Nintendo Points.

Following a retro arcade feel, escapeVektor has players navigating colorful mazes set within their CPU while avoiding enemies patrolling the circuitry.

If players own Nnooo's other Wiiware game, Pop, the game will also automatically unlock bonus levels in escapeVektor. Check out the press release below for more details.

Nnooo Announces Release Date and Price for escapeVektor: Chapter 1

Australian based games developer Nnooo has announced the release date and price for its upcoming WiiWare™ game escapeVektor: Chapter 1.

The game will be released in The Americas, Europe, Australia and NZ on September 29th and will cost 500 Nintendo Points.

escapeVektor: Chapter 1 is a retro styled arcade game in which the player controls Vektor, an entity trapped inside the player’s CPU. The player has to help Vektor escape and in doing so, avoid enemies sent out by the CPU to track Vektor down. Each enemy type has different hunting patterns and intelligence, and as the player completes the various levels in the game, escape becomes more difficult. New abilities unlock to help the player outwit and destroy the CPU’s army.

“We’ve made a game which we believe will appeal to casual through to more dedicated gamers”, said Nic Watt, Creative Director at Nnooo. “The gameplay is straightforward enough for everyone to pick up but the the game itself becomes increasingly complex, particularly if the player wants to complete all levels without using Detonate, one of Vektor’s abilities. We’ve also included 40 badges for players to collect.”

As the player continues through the game, old code and memories are unlocked which reveal more about Vektor’s past. This chapter will be the first in a series of escapeVektor games which will follow the adventures of Vektor.

“There are 30 levels to play and a medal system which will challenge the most hardcore gamer”, said Watt. “We’ve also gone for that retro arcade feel and backed it up with some great music. In addition, bonus levels open up if you own our other WiiWare game, Pop. We’ll be releasing more details about the game over the coming weeks.”

escapeVektor: Chapter 1 marks a return to WiiWare for Nnooo after the highly successful Pop™, one of only 6 launch titles for WiiWare in the Americas.

Talkback

I played a few minutes of this game at E3. It feels like a very slow-paced Pac-Man but really hard for some reason. Maybe there is some strategy that I didn't pick up on during the demo. Hard to imagine how they're going to justify multiple chapters of a game like this, unless Chapter 2 has a completely different gameplay mechanic (think Bit.Trip series).

The turbo button?

The game introduces some new enemies and things as you progress. From what I saw/played it is pretty fun, I wouldn't call it a slow pac-man. Also, I did ask them how the following chapters would be different in my interview with them, they will offer some twists in the level designs.
