Download your Game Boy games, Excitebike, and Pokédex!

The 3DS eShop is live, so get to downloading the system's latest system update for Nintendo's newest system.

Alongside the update are several games, including Excitebike 3D Classics and Pokédex 3D, both for free. Also, three games for the Virtual Console are available - Super Mario Land, Alleyway, and Radar Mission.

Woo hoo! The 3DS is complete!

I just picked up the free downloads, plus Super Mario Land and Alleyway. The shop is super smooth now that maintenance is finished. Color me impressed, it looks like Nintendo has finally given us a eShop that is not only on par with the competitors, but possibly superior.

I really like how if you hold down SELECT or START while you launch a Game Boy Virtual Console game, it shows a Game Boy frame around the image.  Also, holding L + R and pressing Y lets you swap between grayscale (Game Boy pocket!) or green (original Game Boy!) color schemes.

Interface is streamlined, download speeds are fast and the browser works well. Good start. However, I noticed Super Mario Land costs £3.60, which makes it more than what 500 Wii Points would be. The other two Virtual Console titles were less, but still. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at the discrepancy with the American eShop's pricing structure - I just need to accept that things are always more expensive here. Damn you, fragile economy!

I love the eShop's background music. It, along with the music in System Settings, are pretty good.
