Every move you make counts for coins to be used in games.

Nintendo 3DS owners will be treated to the system's pre-installed Activity Log feature. This software functions as a pedometer, and will allow players to earn digital play coins as a reward for their real life walking. These coins can be spent within different games to unlock bonus content.

I read elsewhere that there is some kind of virtual log as well with this system. That ring any bells greybrick? All I read was the words virtual log and can only assume it is going to be our handheld "achievements" system.

That is a really strange idea... I can see people finding workarounds to keep their system moving so they can rack up coins.

I have to do a lot of walking everyday anyways, so it won't be hard for me to earn a lot of coins (since I always bring my DSi with me, soon to be replace by the 3DS).

This is a pretty great idea from all respects -- getting people walking helps with health and people walking with their 3DSes creates free advertising for Nintendo and encourages more interaction with others.  I wonder if they'll add anything to try to detect machine-generated movement.

This is way better than trophies. I like this augmented reality-gaming nexus that they've been building on; if they could take this and the Vitality Sensor to the next level for the next console, there'd be no stopping them.
