Wario shows off his micro-games on WiiWare, a classic N64 strategy game arrives on Virtual Console, and DSi owners get to save cute turtles.

This week brings eight new titles to Nintendo's downloadable services. WiiWare receives two titles, the first of these being WarioWare: D.I.Y Showcase. A companion game for the DS title of the same name, Showcase lets players upload their creations onto the Wii and play them on their TV. Players can also share comic panels and music as well as download other micro-games. Of course, Wario and friends make an appearance in their own selection of micro-games. D.I.Y Showcase can be downloaded for 800 Wii Points ($8).

From Hudsonsoft comes Diner Dash. First appearing as a PC puzzle title, Diner Dash stars Flo with her mission being serving her clients as best as possible. She must seat them, take their orders, deliver their food, and clean up in a manner most effective. For 1,000 Wii Points ($10) players can compete with each other in online matches, or play co-op and help each other control the flow of customers.

The Virtual Console sees a single - yet significant - release. Square Enix releases Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber for the Nintendo 64, a tactical RPG in which players declare war on a tyrannical empire. The game features multiple job classes and even multiple endings that change depending on how well the player handles the battles. The classic N64 title can be downloaded for 1,000 Wii Points ($10).

DSiWare sees the most releases this week with five titles. First is Disney Fireworks from Disney Interactive, a Disney themed fireworks puzzle/simulator where timing is everything in delivering a great performance. The title can be downloaded for 800 DSi Points ($8).

From Latin American development house Sabarasa come this week's second DSi title, Save the Turtles. Save the Turtles is a puzzle game in which players guide baby turtles from birth till their eventual arrival at sea, avoiding enemies and other obstacles. The charming title can be obtained for 500 DSi Points ($5).

Nintendo delivers two DSiWare apps this week that aim to enhance one's musical experience. Nintendo DSiWare Metronome lets players tune up the tempo in a variety of themes, including a Game and Watch one. Nintendo DSiWare Instrument Tuner helps players tune up their instruments by altering their pitch and sound. Both titles can be downloaded for 200 DSi Points ($2).

The final DSiWare and downloadable title this week is Super Yum Yum Puzzle Adventure from Mastertronic. Starring a chameleon named Leon, players must guide him through 48 puzzle levels in which they must eat and lick various fruits. The title is now available for 800 DSi Points ($8).

As a bonus download this week, Club Nintendo members can redeem their coins and download Grill Off with Ultra Hand. The Ultra Hand was one of Nintendo's original toys, consisting of a pair of pinchers that can extend and grab objects at a long distance. Grill Off with Ultra Hand features the same concept, only players must grab food off of grills at the right time. There is a two-player competitive mode where players must grab the most food before time runs out. Club Nintendo members must first register Nintendo software in order to gain coins and download this title.

Talkback

Ogre Battle 64 is one of my favorite games of all time, and it's fantastic to see it not only on VC but also apparently the first 3rd party Nintendo 64 game (and one that used the memory card, no less).  Being able to finally play this game in Component Video really makes a difference as well, as the game was always kind of blurry back on the N64.  But now in Component video the sprites are a lot sharper and the artwork really shines.  This game may not be your type of game, but it's by far the best in the Ogre Battle series and it's definitely worth a look.  Just be prepared going in that (just like the recent Final Fantasy XIII) you are more concerned about the flow of battle than issuing commands.  The battles are usually won before the fighting's even started, in your preparations.
