Shaun White trades his snowboard for a skateboard in his upcoming Wii game.

Ubisoft has announced that they are working on a third Shaun White title for Wii. Unlike the first two titles, however, it will be a skateboarding game.

Shaun White Skateboarding will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal, and is slated to be released this holiday. White expressed his enthusiasm in an interview with Los Angeles-based radio station KROQ.

"I can't describe how excited I am about the skateboard game," said Shaun White. "We've been working on it for a while now and it's ready to melt minds."

This isn't really surprising. When he isn't snowboarding he skateboards. So in the Summer he does it. I wonder how it will be controlled.

BlackNMild2k1March 04, 2010

Shaun White = the NEW Tony Hawk.

NWR_pap64Pedro Hernandez, Contributing WriterMarch 04, 2010

One thing's for sure... It will be better than Tony Hawk Ride.

For guys like Shaun White, it's "never summer". I don't think it's possible to snowboard all year around, but close to it. There is at least one resort in Chile (south of equator = snow in June - September) and probably several more in the Southern Hemisphere that I don't know about.

BeautifulShyMarch 05, 2010

Well of course you could find spots around to snowboard year round. I was just saying that the tradional time frame for summer he skateboards.

Do we have any snowboarders or skateboarders on the forum?

BlackNMild2k1March 05, 2010

I used to Snowboard.

RABicleMarch 05, 2010

There's snow in Argentina, Australia and New Zealand too.

Regardless, Shaun does skate in Summer. He skates enough to have won the Summer X Games vert.

I assume it'll use the Balance Board. I just hope it is better than Skate It.

If it does that, then we will talk about if it's better than Tony Hawk Ride.

Man, outside of Skate games on 360/PS3, skateboarding games have sucked lately.

KDR_11kMarch 05, 2010

Looks to me like Ubisoft saw an opening when TH Ride failed.

TJ SpykeMarch 05, 2010

That may be part of the reason, but I think part of it was also because his snowboarding games have been big sellers for Ubisoft.

I'm a skier (fourth season) but would like to try snowboarding sometime. I've tried a little skateboarding, but I'm terrible at it.

Ian SaneMarch 05, 2010

As a kid I asked for a skateboard for Christmas and was so thrilled when my grandparents got it for me.  I went outside and stood on it and "Oh shit!  I have no balance!  I can't stay on this thing for more than three seconds!"  And that was the end of my skateboarding.  I still appreciated the gift, though.

A Shaun White skateboarding game to me seems like making a Michael Jordon baseball game.  That's probably being a little mean to Shaun. ;)  Checking out the greatest source of all info, Wikipedia, Shaun does have some noteriety as a skateboarder, so there you go.  I guess he's the Bo Jackson of extreme sports.

More like the Michael Phelps of riding a board.  Phelps didn't win 8 gold medals--he won the same gold medal 8 times.  ;D

Shawn White stands good on a board--whether that board's on snow, tiny wheels or water it probably makes no difference.

I await Shaun White Waterboarding from Ubisoft.

wait.... I hope that game doesn't have Sam Fisher in it, because waterboarding is an illegal practice in the US.

ShyGuyMarch 05, 2010

Aren't Shaun White and Tony Hawk friends? Taking over Tony's territory. Is this the first rumblings of an east coast/west coast SKATER BEEF?

BlackNMild2k1March 05, 2010

WESTSIDE!!!  \/\/

Considering the Tony Hawk series is pretty much died now, there's not much territory to fight over.

KDR_11kMarch 06, 2010

Looks like Mr. Hawk didn't get the memo though.

Not to mention that there is no sport called waterboarding (you may be thinking of wakeboarding).

Also, Hand Egg.

Sam Fisher Splinter Cell + Waterboarding = joke..... I thought "illegal practice in the US" would give it away.

Handegg? I thought it was called Mortal Kombat!

Looks more like Elbow Egg to me. He holds the egg in the corner of his elbow.

TJ SpykeMarch 07, 2010

Is Shyguy trying to call surfing "waterboarding"?

ShyGuyMarch 07, 2010

I'm just Saying Ubisoft needs to make a game called "Shaun White Waterboarding"

vuduMarch 08, 2010

I'm starting to think TJ Spyke is a spambot with extremely sophisticated AI.

He almost seems like an actual person, but when he gets tripped up on "Gameboy" vs. "Game Boy" (and "water-boarding" vs. "wake boarding") or refusing to recognize Sony's motion controller as "Arc" you can see the programming start to fall apart.

TJ SpykeMarch 08, 2010

Haha, very funny vudu.  ::)

Ian SaneMarch 08, 2010

Rumour has it "football" was originally a term for games "played on foot".  Some people liked to played a kicking variation while others liked a carrying variation.  Both soccer and rugby were called "football".

Makes you wonder what sort of world people lived in where games played on foot were enough of a minority to require a specific term.  What sports aren't played on foot?  Polo, auto racing, ice hockey, wheelchair sports.  That's all I can think of.  Isn't cricket played "on foot"?  Didn't it already exist when football was invented?

Though the best argument to make is simple.  American football gets to be "football" because America runs the world and Europe doesn't.  I'm not even an American but I know that's how it works.  So kick/dive-ball is "soccer" because America says it is.

ShyGuyMarch 09, 2010

Listen to this Candian. He knows what's up. Shaun White just went up there and took a bunch of their gold medals. That's why he gets to make a skateboarding game.

KDR_11kMarch 09, 2010

Back in the feudal era sports played by the high society were usually on horseback. I can't imagine that cricket is older than football, at least in their respective proto forms. Cricket is a fairly advanced game with tons of rules and tools, football just requires a ball and some posts to delimit the goal. It probably didn't have an offside rule back in the day but since it's so easy to grab a ball and say "try to kick it into this area" proto football should've been around for as long as balls are.

No but we leave the Americans in their belief that "football" means their sport to anybody but them (well, okay, it's also used in foreign languages where the local term for association football differs, e.g. in German association football is called "Fußball" while American rugby goes by the name "Football" and nobody watches it or knows the rules). Just as we don't give a crap about their stone age measurement units we don't give a crap about their "football".
