The Zelda bigwig admits that some online fans have figured out the role of the mystery character revealed in Zelda Wii artwork.

Eiji Aonuma has confirmed that certain internet speculators have figured out the story behind the character portrayed with Link in the Zelda Wii artwork revealed at this year's E3, but he won't reveal what that story is just yet.

In an interview with Offical Nintendo Magazine UK, Aonuma stated, "You will have to wait until next year when we can elaborate on this and many other things." He did admit that some fans were on the ball, however. "But what I can tell you is that yes I have read some of the speculation, and some of it is right! That is all I can say at the moment."

Recent comments plucked from the same interview hint at a Zelda Wii unveiling at E3 2010. Until then, Aonuma will keep this secret to himself.

I hope its the guy who said that the girl is the master sword and there will be 2 player co-op between link and the sword.

I hope the unveiling does a good job of showing us how the game will be different, and possibly has a demonstration of how the Motion Plus will work. Though it may still be too early in development for the latter.

cool, and maybe Link will achieve bankai...actually that might be kinda cool :)

I still don't see how swing a girl will be much different than a sword.

Ian SaneNovember 20, 2009

I think it would be funny if the speculation that ended up being dead on was some joke suggestion and due to not having a proper grasp of the English language Aonuma can't pick up on the sarcasm.

So it actually has Girl Link or a Win Button. ;)

Girl Link is not sarcasm!

Some day there will be a female Link adventure! Hopefully, focusing more on the underused magical items for puzzle solving and combat

For all we know Ganon could have turned everything including Link and his sword into a girl!

Well, a girl link would make sense considering Link is supposed to be the player's avatar and restricting Link to be male would be unfair towards female gamers (which the Wii has more of than any other console).

As Malstrom said, it's a pretty stupid plot twist if people were able to figure it out just by looking at teaser art.

Stevey: Wrong way around, the arms are the hilt guard of the sword and spread out when it is at full power, he'd have to hold her by the head and swing her feet around.

Does anyone else wonder where Stevey gets all these video game fan art images? On second thought, don't tell me, I don't want to know.

What if Zelda and Link have their genders swapped by a magical spell, and then Girl Link has to rescue a Boy Zelda trapped in a tower somewhere?

KDR_11kNovember 21, 2009

They didn't need a story reason to mirror Hyrule in Twilight Princess Wii, they wouldn't need one to switch the character genders if the player picks a female link.
