MTV’s Multiplayer blog sheds some light on the mysterious Wii exclusive Spore title.

In a recent interview with MTV’s Stephen Totillo, Lucy Bradshaw, general manager of The Sims and Spore series confirmed the existence of Spore Hero, a brand new game in the Spore series built specifically from the ground up for Wii.

The creature creator found in the PC version of Spore will be present in Spore Hero as will the pointer driven editing tools. According to the team, the Wii was chosen due to its pointing functionality, as it allowed them to mimic the PC's editing interface.

While the original Spore title started you off as primordial ooze, in Spore Hero your creature will already be in an evolved state and will arrive on a new planet after its original home planet was destroyed by a catastrophic event. The goal of Spore Hero is to shape this newfound planet into your own through a number of quests and adventures. Players will interact with other creatures on the planet during their adventures in social and combative ways.

The evolution mechanic from the original Spore will be retained, though in Spore Hero to evolve the player will have to complete special "Evolutionary Quests." Once these quests are completed not only will the player’s creature evolve, it will be able to learn new abilities such as jumping. These abilities will allow the player to reach new areas.

While EA didn't show screenshots of the title, Bradshaw promised that it would suit the Wii well with a "cheerful experience that suits Nintendo's image." Bradshaw also revealed that the team is looking at Wii MotionPlus to provide better motion controls in hopes that they can provide an experience that rivals Nintendo's own efforts on the system.

Spore Hero is set for release sometime this year on Wii.

Cheerful experience, eh? This will do until somebody makes E.V.O. II.

Isn't it humorous that this is stated right on the release of Madworld?

It sound's like it is going to be a platformy-simulationy-type-thingy. My interest is now piqued.

I'm not sure. What's EA's track record on story-driven spinoffs of freeform games?
