Phantasy Star Universe producer's latest game will feature 8-bit platforming and a charming sense of humor.

Thanks to Famitsu, Sega's teased project has been revealed to be Pole's Big Adventure, an 8-bit platforming game for WiiWare. Produced by Phantasy Star Universe producer Takao Miyoshi, Pole's Big Adventure is a classic platformer as you travel from left to right avoiding or shooting enemies.

In addition to the old-school play style, Pole's Big Adventure also appears to have a sense of humor. The levels will feature over 100 hidden gags, such as your character eating a bunch of Mario-styled mushroom power-ups and growing so tall that only his feet are visible on the screen.

In the article it is referred to as a 'Touch Famicom' game, which may suggest more games in a similar vein are in the works.

Pole's Big Adventure is scheduled to release in Japan on February 3 for 500 Wii Points ($5).

I love how in the original Famitsu article it really stresses that it has "100 jokes"!

Don't often see that on a press release!

Is that the guy who thought that 20 minutes of intro about meaningless crap (oh noes my sister got mugged, gotta catch the thief!) where the only real plot development got spoiled in the intro speech that preceeded it is a good idea?

I like the idea of an 8-bit game but they gotta change that name.  Pole's Big Adventure?  What do you play as a big metal rod?  Nah, that name needs to be changed for North American release.

If it even gets one.

If that's the level of humor we should expect from it...

How about for America "Megatons Epic Big Adventure "

8) 8) 8) 8) ;D :D ;)

KDR_11kJanuary 24, 2009

No, a game like that would have to feature a sentient nuclear bomb as its hero.

Which is sadly why it won't be localized...

Chances of this game being good are about 50/50.

A game that uses 8-bit humor, but has the producer of Phantasy Star Universe.
