Nintendo to Aggressively Pursue Latin American Market

Unbelievable growth in the market over the past few years is giving Nintendo reason enough to more aggressively pursue it.

In an interview with Reggie Fils-Aime at the Nintendo NEX Latin America 2008 conference in Playa Bonita, Panama, it was revealed that Nintendo intends to more aggressively pursue the Latin American market. According to Fils-Aime, "Nintendo has experienced phenomenal growth in the region over the past few years, growth that has even surpassed what we have seen in the United States."

Head of Nintendo's Latin America branch, Bill van Zyll, claims that the market could be worth $2 billion this year. Though only a fraction of the $57 billion market, "the long-term economic potential of Latin America makes this an extremely important market" says Fils-Aime.

Nintendo has not currently described their plan of action for the region, but more information should be presenting itself soon.

Pity they can't fix what is so clearly broken first.

I could make a really rude and even racist comment about Nintendo supporting Latin America, but then that would be something the typical ignorant white American would do. So to conserve my integrity I shan't make the joke...

(Yes, I am being ironic and sarcastic).

interesting...

I just hope Reggie makes sure his employees learn which countries are part of Latin America first ¬¬

Nintendo and Mario are easy said in Spanish and X-box and Playstation don't roll off the tongue as easily so thats an advantage.  I also think the lower prices can really help Nintendo in those markets as well since they are not known for being rich.

xbox and playstation sound "cooler" and "edgier" though (however everyone I know still calls everything console-related atari), and the three consoles at least in colombia are priced practically the same.

the market is already there anyway, if it has grown it means people are shifting from piracy to legality which is very surprising to say the least. If Nintendo manages to lower the prices of the consoles and games they will surely win, sometimes is taxes over the imports the reason for high prices but I honestly think most of the time is Nintendo being an ass with its latin american costumers. Games don't even get lower prices with time, GC games still sell (legally) at above $60.
