The wireless DS service that made its debut last season is now free and has plans for expansion.

Nintendo announced that their Nintendo Fan Network that made its debut in 2007 is now free at every Seattle Mariners home game. The service involves a DS connecting wirelessly to any one of the numerous download stations in the stadium. Once connected, you can check various things, like player statistics, other MLB scores, team standings, and you can also watch live broadcast video from the game. You can also chat with other fans using the service and participate in various games. You can even order food that can be delivered right to your seat.

Nintendo also made note of the fact that they are “always adding new features” but they didn’t give any details as to what these new features might be.

NINTENDO GIVES MARINERS FANS FREE ACCESS TO NINTENDO FAN NETWORK

April 22, 2008

Nintendo is giving Seattle Mariners fans a gift at every home game this year: free access to the Nintendo Fan Network. Fans who bring a Nintendo DS to Safeco Field can log on wirelessly to the Nintendo Fan Network to access a wide variety of baseball-related content. Some of the many features include access to player statistics, scores from other MLB games in progress, current team standings, chat with other fans and the ability to compete in trivia and other mini games. Additionally, fans can watch the in-stadium live broadcast video and use the Nintendo DS touch screen to order ballpark food and beverages delivered right to their seats.

The Nintendo Fan Network made its debut at Safeco Field during the 2007 season. Thousands of fans tried the Nintendo Fan Network for a minimal fee during the 2007 season trial, but fans attending Mariners home games during the 2008 season can access an even wider variety of features for free, just by bringing a Nintendo DS to Safeco Field. Fans can download the Nintendo Fan Network at one of the two kiosks located near sections 127 and 143 or at one of the 15 download stations throughout the stadium.

The Nintendo Fan Network will get an additional workout this week, when the Mariners begin a six-game home stand. Nintendo is always adding new features, so every time fans download the service, they might see something new and experience a whole new way to enjoy the game.

For more information about the Nintendo Fan Network, please visit the Nintendo Fan Network kiosks at Safeco Field.

This is pretty awesome. I love going to Shea Stadium (:( that it's getting demolished) for Mets games, and I'd love it even more if I could have a service like this to use at the stadium. Any Mariners fans out there will no doubt love this.

This just seems so funny.  I'm already at the damn game!  Why would I want to watch it on some tiny screen when I'm f*cking there? :)  But then my Dad goes to live sports events and pretty much watches the jumbotron the whole time so who knows.  I suppose this would come in handy when you go to the bathroom or wait in line for food.

I'm hoping to check out a game or two this year so maybe I'll try this out just because I can.

Well, the DS could give you another angle.  Or if you're in the nose-bleed a close-up.

Come on, Nintendo, bring this to Progressive Field or PNC Park, I want to try this out.
