Spore Confirmed for Wii

Will Wright's ultimate god game is heading to “the only next-gen system."

In an interview with UK publication The Guardian, legendary game creator Will Wright has confirmed that he is working on a version of Spore for Wii. No other details on the Wii release were given during the interview.

Wright mentioned that he was making a Wii version of Spore without being asked about it directly. Instead, he mentioned that he liked playing with a Wii at home and then let the cat out the bag on his own initiative. “We're doing Spore on the Wii," he said.

Spore, the god game that lets players control evolution from the smallest microbe to the largest planets in outer space, is currently under development for the PC. Publisher Electronic Arts has not yet set a release date for the game.

The AIAS Hall of Fame inductee was also asked about the games he liked to play. He eventually touched on the subject of what “next-gen" gaming is to him:

"Somebody asked me what I thought next generation meant and what about the PlayStation 3 was next generation. The only next gen system I've seen is the Wii – the PS3 and the Xbox 360 feel like better versions of the last, but pretty much the same game with incremental improvement. Bu the Wii feels like a major jump – not that the graphics are more powerful, but that it hits a completely different demographic. In some sense I see the Wii as the most significant thing that's happened, at least on the console side, in quite a while."

Nintendo World Report will be on the lookout for any new information about Spore heading to the Wii.

You might want to clarify that, Spore is not coming "only" to wii. The wording is a little weird.

In an interview Will Wright called the Wii the only next gen console as he believes the 360 and PS3 are just graphic machines that don't push the gameplay forward. That's the meaning behind the title.

This is great news. However, I wonder how many thought it was a forgone conclusion waiting to be official ala Okami?

Anyways, it'll be sweet to morph and evolve creatures with the pointer. I wonder if E.V.O. will hit the virtual console around the week of Spore's release!

Whose opinion should I take more serious about Wii, David Jaffe or Will Wright? Hmm tough choice. face-icon-small-wink.gif

I can't be too excited. I know what they do to console versions of these games. I won't be surprised if it's a quest based adventure game called SPORE: Mystery in Evolution Town

Why can't they just straight port these things? I would have bought a real sims 2 port in a second.

I was thinking the same thing planetidiot...

I'm hoping they somehow do a full version for Wii so I don't have to play it on my computer. That would be sweet.
