Another 2D Sonic game is on its way ... with some 3D and touch screen controls.

SEGA ANNOUNCES SONIC RUSH ADVENTURE FOR THE NINTENDO DS

Sequel to Critically-Acclaimed Sonic Rush in Development

SAN FRANCISCO (April 16, 2007) - SEGA® of America Inc. today announced the development of Sonic Rush Adventure™ for the Nintendo DS™ system. Sonic Rush Adventure will seamlessly utilize both screens of the Nintendo DS to navigate the high seas in search of pirate treasure and deliver Sonic’s classic high-speed 2D gameplay in the ultimate Sonic handheld experience. Developed by SEGA Studios, Sonic Rush Adventure for the DS will be available in fall 2007.

Sonic returns to the Nintendo DS in an all-new frantic adventure complete with dizzying dives, near vertical curves and brain twisting loops. Sonic Rush Adventure will deliver the dual screen action fans loved in Sonic Rush™, as well as a new high seas adventure where Sonic clashes with ruthless pirates. As Sonic, players will set off from Windmill Village to blast through seven action-packed and widely diverse levels that continue the great 2D gameplay experience from the original Sonic Rush.

Players will speed through action stages to uncover valuable items and materials which allow Tails to build new ships to help Sonic track down the villainous pirates. With a fleet of up to five ships, including a submarine, water bike, and hovercraft, players will use the touch screen technology in exciting new ways, controlling their ships as they race across the ocean gathering rings, performing tricks, and torching pirate ships in fierce ship-to-ship battles. At the end of each level, players will test their skills in epic 3D boss battles spanning both screens, including the ultimate showdown with the evil boss character, Captain Whisker.

In Sonic Rush Adventure, players will bounce, fly, swing, ride and run through grand environments that will include lust forests, an ominous ghost ship, snow covered mountains, pirate villages and a vast underwater sea cave. Along the way, players will do battle with a variety of enemy characters including robots, skeleton warriors, pterodactyls, and a robotic triceratops.

Additionally, players will be able to compete with friends in wireless racing and mission-based battles using the DS Download Play feature or Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

I can only hope Svevan reviews this game when it comes out.

The creators of the game seem to be innovating quite abit with this new game. This part has me the most excited:

Wow. Robots, dinosaurs, robotic dinosaurs. How do they get these wacky ideas?

You know, with this recent outbreak of dinosaurs in sonic games, I have to wonder if perhaps Sega has been aggressively taken over by our prehistoric pals.

So that why everyone running sega seem to have a pea size brains...

It's definitely a Jurassic Takeover!

Sonic Rush for the DS was a pretty fun game I thought. So hopefully they'll continue to make another good one with this game.

Unfortunately, it does seem like Sega isn't being too creative with "robots, dinosaurs, and robot dinosaurs", along with the original being "Sonic Rush" and the 3-D Dreamcast game "Sonic Adventure". Now we have "Sonic Rush Adventure" .... wonder how long that took them.

Reminds me of the Simpsons with the Mad TV brainstorming session. They were like *After several hours of brainstorming* "Why don't we call it 'Everyone Hates Raymond' ." .... haha

Hmm.. Dimps is developing this one, right?

Awesome!

Sonic Rush was a great game so its great news that they are doing a sequel for it.

KDR_11kApril 17, 2007

I hope it has less Altitude Limit and more Dead Line.

Why do I have a bad feeling about this one? Hopefully Dimps is making this, too, but they made Sonic Rush, which I found inferior to the GBA games, and more 3D probably isn't a good thing. Well, hopefully they will have a better sound track this time.

I liked the first Sonic Advance better than the rest. Really, though, a lot of people complain that there isn't enough speed in the gameplay, but they forget that later levels in the original Genesis Sonic games had much less speed and more platforming. Anywhere that featured the game's speed in later levels would have deadly spikes, a pit, or an enemy pop up from no where.

Anyways, I liked how Amy played in the first. I don't know why, though.
I'd really like a Paper Mario styled Sonic game, or at least the easy character switch the game has, but I've been wanting that since The Lost Vikings, and I don't mean the way Sonic Heroes did it. Still, I think a Paper Sonic, or even a Paper Mario meets Paper Sonic game would be interesting, and probably a bit more enticing than Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. I wonder how it would work, though.
