Big Changes at Take-Two

The publisher of the GTA series says, among other things, that “working with Nintendo is a priority."

Game publisher Take-Two has been going through troubled times lately. In the past week, the company has appointed a new chairman, Strauss Zelnick; a new interim CEO, Ben Feder; is looking for a new CFO, after Karl Winters left T2 on Monday; and has been relisted on the NASDAQ earlier today as the publisher continues to stabilize its legal situation.

With all that's been happening to them, it's easy to forget that they still have a business to run and games to see to market. During a conference call today, Zelnick and Feder outlined a plan to turn the publisher around and get them back to profitability. In order to see healthy growth moving forward, Take-Two will be looking at getting the most out of their satellite arms, like the 2K brand, and to also rework the greenlighting process for all games in development. Take-Two will be making many more internal changes to help see things through.

Of note to Nintendo fans, Zelnick mentioned that “working with Nintendo is a priority." Though Zelnick said “all of next-gen is a priority" for Take-Two soon after, he later went on to say that he wanted his company to make “great games for Nintendo."

The first of Take-Two's “great" Nintendo games could be Manhunt 2, which is scheduled to come out for Wii sometime this fall.

In other words: "We ($#@ up, we need to catch the money train!"

Its like the article that posted in the forums earlier about 3rd parties trying to play catch-up now. Now if one of those 'great' games could be GTA IV or a spin-off, we'll be set...

I rather have a new IP then GTA. Personally. I enjoyed in there own way the first 2 but 3, the one that made it take off, I really couldn't fully get into.

I sincerely doubt that GTA IV will ever be on the Wii. It was designed with the power of the XBox 360 and PS3 in mind. I think the Wii will likely see either ports of the PSP/PS2 games Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories or an exclusive sequal (San Andreas Stories, perhaps?) - probably released on the same day as GTA IV so Wii owners that don't own either of the other 2 systems don't feel left out of the GTA IV hysteria..

I wish there was a link to full article.

Did they only single out Nintendo? And then backtrack and say that "all of next-gen is a priority"? Or did they say that first, then say Nintendo is a priority, it's only a slight difference I know, but little things like that can imply a lot, or possibly nothing...

Of course this is good news, I just really hope we don't get a port of an already released game, I'm getting a little tired of that personally, SSX Blur while good, how many new courses were there? RE:4 and Umbrella Chronicles are also not new properties. I would really like to a fully fleshed out new property from T2 exclusively for the Wii.

It doesn't show in the forum post, but the source is linked.

Finally, asked about the company's traditionally weak relationship with Nintendo, Zelnick confirmed that "working with Nintendo is a priority," and in fact "all of next-gen is a priority," adding that the challenge was to tailor games to each platform and the type of consumer that was attracted to the platform, but that Take-Two was committed to creating "great games for Nintendo."

Heres the actual quote. I think that the story should have quoted the whole paragraph out of fairness.

I honestly didn't see this coming.

I wonder what exactly Take-Two thinks "the type of consumer that was attracted to the platform" is.
