The fix is the first use of the Wii Shop update feature.

Military Madness fans were disappointed to find less than perfect emulation in the Virtual Console version of the TurboGrafx-16 title. The game suffered from a lagged scrolling glitch. As of today, the bug has been eliminated.

Purchasers of Military Madness will find an updated version waiting for them in the Wii Shop Channel. Loading the Military Madness download page will yield an Update button rather than the usual Redownload button. New downloaders of the game will get the fixed version automatically.

While this update is just a bug fix, the Wii Shop Channel Shopping Guide mentions that enhancements to existing games will be made available in the future. This release offers a glimpse at the update process as well as shows the commitment of the emulator programmers in resolving issues after games have been released.

Obviously, "enhancement" can go several ways. I wish it goes toward new features, such as online multiplayer, though we've had no actual confirmation in this area, just loose, nondescript terms.

Kudos to Hudson for following up on this problem.

Sweetness. I was noticing that the scroll was laggy as I was playing last night, I got the game a while back but I'm just getting to playing it. I thought that was just how it was. I'm glad there is an update.

I wonder if there'll be a fix for MK64's ghosts?

The possibilities for this are wondefully fertile, I hope the update button fulfills much of the VC potential.

I don't know if Nintendo will bother patching MK64, but they NEED to find some workaround for the Controller Pak because many third-party N64 games used it for saving game data. Those games will be pretty much worthless on VC without some way to save your game. (The suspend feature is not a valid substitute, although it's still handy for some games.)

It's possible enhancements could simply be things like enabling controller pack abilities, but I can't think of any other bland fix besides that and emulation issues. I really do hope this opens the door to actual enhancements.

Maybe it could mean an update for being able to map buttons to whatever you wanted. That would be nice to have in games like Contra III.
