Ubi Soft brings Rayman to the Wii!

UBISOFT UNVEILS RAYMAN RAVING RABBIDS™

Famed Creative Director Michel Ancel Returns to Launch Best-Selling Franchise into the Next Generation

SAN FRANCISCO – MAY 3, 2006 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers announced plans to release the fourth instalment of the Rayman® franchise, now officially titled Rayman Raving Rabbids™, worldwide in Holiday 2006. Scheduled for current and next-generation video game consoles, Rayman Raving Rabbids™ also joins the line-up as an official launch title for Nintendo’s Wii™, formerly known as Nintendo’s Revolution gaming system, and its innovative controller. Rayman Raving Rabbids™ is being developed by Ubisoft’s award-winning studio in Montpellier, France led by Michel Ancel, creator of the original Rayman game, the critically acclaimed Beyond Good & Evil™ and Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie.

Rayman Raving Rabbids™ marks the return of the iconic video-game hero, Rayman, in his funniest and zaniest adventure ever. When the world of Rayman is threatened by a devastating invasion of crazed, out-of-control bunnies Rayman must rise up against his furry foes to foil their wicked plans. Utilizing an array of amazing new abilities, and with the help of magical creatures, Rayman must break out all the moves to save his world from these delirious bunnies and their hare-raising antics.

“It’s a real pleasure for me to be back working on an all-new Rayman game," said Michel Ancel. “After wrapping the development of Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie last year, the team here in Montpellier sat down to talk about having some fun with Rayman and his universe. We are running into a bit of a problem, though, because our game has been invaded by thousands of raving mad and vicious bunnies, who have apparently been preparing this assault since the very first Rayman game. We are now sending an SOS to all motivated gamers to help us get rid of them as fast as possible!"

Key Features:

Combat the Ultra-Crazed Evil Rabbits – Take control of Rayman and his knack for attack to help save his world from the raving rabbids. They are mischievous, insane and completely out of control. There are several types of rabbids each with its own mischievous characteristics.

Master and Ride Creatures – Tame and control various creatures such as sharks, eagles, rhinos, spiders and angelfish. Rayman can master each animal’s unique capabilities to help in his battle against the devious rabbits.

Dress to Impress – Customize and disguise Rayman. Go punk, pop, rock or hip hop to infiltrate the bunnies and foil their devious plans.

Explore the Colorful Fantastic World of Rayman – Explore amazing free-roaming environments and beautiful epic landscapes that mix real and fantastical styles to create a visually stunning experience.

With more than 16 million copies sold to date, Rayman® is Ubisoft’s best-selling and longest-running video game franchise. Created by Ubisoft’s Game Designer Michel Ancel when he was only 19, the character with no arms and no legs has attracted gamers of all ages.

Rayman Raving Rabbids will make its worldwide debut in May 2006 at E3 in Los Angeles. For more information about Rayman, please visit www.raymanzone.com.

Ubi Soft brings Rayman to the Wii and reveals the first Wii screenshot ever!
Eh?

Hostile CreationMay 03, 2006

How does Red Steel fit into the equation?

By the way, my favorite part about that picture is grandpa in the bottom right corner.

darknight06May 03, 2006

OK 3rd parties, rule no. 1 when doing ads for your Wii games: Dont go showing someone doing some random pose with the controller and not have the effect show on the screen, makes it look like a sparkling innovation and I know damn well it's not.

CapMay 03, 2006

i'm guessing when they say first wii screenshot, they mean for this game.

good thing it looks like fmv.

i'm not going to even comment on that other picture.

KnoxxvilleMay 03, 2006

...but I wiill!

What is that....eyeliner!?! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Edit: Red Steel = #1

StrikerObiMike Sklens, Podcast EditorMay 03, 2006

No, this is the first official Wii screenshot. There's no confirmation that the images in Game Informer weren't un-doctored game images.

mantidorMay 03, 2006

Metroid Prime 3 is the game thats going to really show what the console is capable of anyway.

FaithinchaosMay 03, 2006

Meh, I chalk that photo up to simply being "french."

Isn't anybody else comparatively happy about a new Rayman?

Rayman + Me 4EV!

NinGurl69 *hugglesMay 03, 2006

Time to play more Battalion Wars.

CalibanMay 03, 2006

To me the picture seems like the game is running on a GC, seriously if developers want to show pictures of their Wii games they better look equal or better than RE4 or LoZ:TP.

18 DaysMay 03, 2006

Why do the graphics look worse than PSP? I didn't say wow.

Infernal MonkeyMay 03, 2006

I remember a time when Rayman games had bright visually pleasing environments. It was a happier time. Also people shot lasers out of their eyes.

1dayMay 03, 2006

From what I've read in other places, it's quite possible (more so than not) that this is actually a PS2 screen shot.

HocotateMay 03, 2006

That picture is just plain weird... lol. The screenshot looks horrible, but the kids look kinda funny, and oddly "cool."

Dirk TemporoMay 04, 2006

So they're marketing Rayman to douchebag 13-year-olds?

Is that a girl emo or a boy emo? Inquiring minds want to know!

Girl emo.

BigJimMay 04, 2006

LOL. That picture is hilarious... both of them.

80's Punk Emo Kid and hexagon-pupil rabbit.

KDR_11kMay 04, 2006

Infernal: Rayman hasn't been bright since the second game, Ubisoft always forces the user to up the brightness to see anything (Kong 360 anyone?)

Donutt007May 04, 2006

I thought I saw screenshots of Red Steel a while back, so wouldn't those be the first? Let me see if I can find them again

EDIT:Here they are..

NinGurl69 *hugglesMay 04, 2006

Red Steel is old news. They might as well cancel it now.

KDR_11kMay 04, 2006

Those screenshots were touched up so they don't really count.

Dirk TemporoMay 04, 2006

ALL screen shots are touched up for magazines because the shots never look as good as the game does in motion.

KDR_11kMay 04, 2006

You mean they have to paint in fake lighting and shadows for magazine shots for every game?

ShyGuyMay 07, 2006

I thought the lighting in the screenshoot looked good..

KDR_11kMay 07, 2006

Yes but completely fake.

ShyGuyMay 07, 2006

Psst. It's all fake. They do it with computers.

Only a couple more days, then the truth will be revealed!
