EA Announces SSX on TOUR

Rule the slopes in the latest release from the critically acclaimed SSX franchise

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., May 4, 2005 - Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that SSX On Tour (working title), the latest title under the EA SPORTS BIG(tm) brand, will be available in stores worldwide this fall. SSX On Tour is in development in Vancouver, B.C. by EA Canada, home to the critically acclaimed franchise. SSX On Tour is the fourth iteration in the series, which historically has won numerous industry awards.

"SSX On Tour is a completely fresh take on the SSX franchise," said Steve Barcia, senior producer on the game. "Building on the core speed and trick gameplay that has been so successful in the past, you can now choose your way to become a black diamond rockstar."

SSX On Tour allows players to create their own boarder or skier and take them from a wannabe to a mountain rockstar. Players can get noticed in all-new shred challenges where they earn an invitation to The Tour where they'll face the best racers in the SSX cast. Fly down the all-new tracks, and master the new monster tricks for both boarding and skiing to make it to the top of The Charts.

SSX On Tour is in development for the PlayStation(r)2 computer entertainment system, Xbox(r) video game system from Microsoft and Nintendo GameCube(tm).

Talkback

Despite all the recent "EA is evil, they're on a quest to conquer the world" talk, the BIG franchise is one of the things I like about EA. SSX Tricky was the first game for Gamecube I ever played. SSX 3 was not only a technical marvel, it had masterful presentation. Not to mention the 'Cube version is compentent face-icon-small-wink.gif

The wierd thing now is the inclusion of skiers. Just as how Rollerbladers and Skateboarders are like cats and dogs, same with skiers and snowboarders. Its such an odd inclusion, and would obviously require a new control scheme. We'll see how this works out eventually....

Yeah, I'm eagerly awaiting this one. Hopefully the soundtrack and presentation lives up to the standard SSX 3 set.

I also love the SSX series. EA does publish some really good games, they just get overshadowed by the mountain of liscences and annual sports releases. I think one of the things that makes SSX good is that they haven't pushed to put a new game out every single year...it's a product that I think could wear out it's welcome pretty easily.

I saw some concept art and screens for the new games and the characters are a little...blech. Hopefully that's just a coincidence because I thought the characters were one of the cooler things about the series. But the mountains looked really nice.

I'm sure I won't buy that. I played SSX3 for maybe an hour before permanently adding it to the "don't play" pile.
