Joe is back in a new adventure.
Famitsu has a new report on Capcom's Viewtiful Joe series. The franchise is coming to Sony's Playstation Portable, in addition to staying on the GameCube and the Nintendo DS. There are two games planned.
The first is Viewtiful Joe: VFX Battle. This battle game is similar to Nintendo's own Super Smash Bros. It features characters from both the Viewtiful Joe video game and anime series. The game is point-focused, and the general idea is to be a big as ham as possible, and grab the most attention from the game's camera, which will zoom in on the various characters.
The Nintendo DS is also getting a new Viewtiful Joe game, which is being called Scratch! Viewtiful Joe right now. The game takes place at a theme park, where the newest Captain Blue movie is filming. A group of bad guys arrive and steal the film, and Joe has to go after it. Scratch! will also introduce Joe's younger sister Jasmine.
As far as controls go, Scratch! Viewtiful Joe will use the D-Pad and buttons for primary gameplay. The touch screen will be used, but not a lot. The game is designed with the player' fingers in mind, as it would be a pain to switch between D-pad and stylus during gameplay. An example of the touch screen given is Joe's new "Split" VFX power. This ability lets players split objects in half by slicing with their fingers. Using this power, a player could chop a giant billboard in half and drop part of it on top of the enemies. The DS' top screen is being used to zoom in on the action.
We'll have more on these titles as it becomes available, and they will most likely make an appearance at E3 next month.
