EA ANNOUNCES MARVEL NEMESIS: RISE OF THE IMPERFECTS

EA Taps Top Comic Talent Including Renowned Artist, Jae Lee, to Unleash the Ultimate Super Hero Fighting Videogame

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – March 15, 2005 – Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS) announced today that Marvel Nemesis™: Rise of the Imperfects™ under the EA GAMES™ brand will be released this fall for the PlayStation ® 2 computer entertainment system, Xbox ® videogame system from Microsoft, the Nintendo GameCube™ and the PSP™ handheld entertainment system. The game will feature Super Heroes™ from the Marvel Universe as well as a new set of characters created through collaboration with EA and top comic book industry talent.

“ Marvel Nemesis delivers the definitive Super Hero videogame allowing gamers to play as and against the world’s greatest Super Heroes,” said Marc Aubanel, Executive Producer, EA Canada. “ Marvel Nemesis truly captures the Marvel Universe offering players an authentic Super Hero fighting experience that comic book fans and gamers have been asking for.”

Ames Kirshen, Director Of Video Game Development at Marvel Enterprises, added, "We are thrilled to be working with EA and collaborating with some of the top talents in both the videogame and comic book industries in creating this groundbreaking comic series and innovative fighting game franchise."

EA is calling on the talent of top comic book writers and concept artists, such as Jae Lee, for Marvel character and game design as well as renowned artist, Paul Catling, among other industry talents, to create a new family of Super Heroes that will go face to face with an all-star line-up of Marvel characters for the ultimate showdown.

Lee has illustrated high-profile comic book titles including Spider-Man, Uncanny X-men, X-Factor, Captain America, Transformers Versus G.I. Joe and his own creation Hellshock. Catling is best known for his concept artwork and character design on Hollywood blockbuster films including Spider-Man 2, AVP: Alien Vs. Predator, The Punisher, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider .

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects will feature more than a dozen fighters in fully interactive and destructible environments. Gamers will have full control over the individual characters with each fighter having unique attributes and super powers that are true to their background adding more depth and fighting strategy to the game.

The Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects videogame also spawned the new Marvel six issue mini-series, Marvel Nemesis: The Imperfects™, launching this May. In the comic book, Marvel Super Heroes including Spider-Man, Wolverine, The Thing and Elektra clash with EA’s Niles Van Roekel, an evil alien scientist out to create a super army of vicious warriors. Through the comic books, the new EA characters will be unveiled each month leading up to the launch of the game.

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects is currently under development by Nihilistic Software, an independent game development studio headquartered in Marin County, California ( www.nihilistic.com ), and is produced at EA Canada. "Through the comic books, the new EA characters will be unveiled each month leading up to the launch of the game."

So they're actually putting the crappy EA characters in the comic books? I'm sure Marvel Comics fans are going to love THAT. But then if corporate sellout bullsh!t offends you you probably shouldn't be reading comics in the first place. face-icon-small-smile.gif

What, the word "super hero" is trademarked? WTF?!?

I want to stop the Evil Alliance ® by destroying their gigantic Amorphous Blob of Evil™, can I do that in this game or do I need a mailbomb and Larry Probst's address for that?

couchmonkeyMarch 15, 2005

It's not like they're interrupting the regular storylines to put the EA characters in. People who don't like it don't have to buy the mini-series.

That said, I really don't get the concept of doing a character crossover without having any popular characters to crossover with. Maybe EA was too lazy to create some new game characters and decided to pay Marvel to do it for them.

SunriderMarch 15, 2005

The new characters were created by, and owned by, Marvel. They announced that when they announced the game early last year.

Oh, and Super Hero is a jointly registered trademark between Marvel and DC - it was registered decades ago.

Spiritual successor to Marvel Vs Capcom? Or is this another Goldeneye: Rogue Agent?

Hopefully they won't get kicked off by their publisher this time (Remember how they were 'done' with their portion on Star Craft Ghost?...)

Now if they could get Tobey Maguire to voice Spider man and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine... face-icon-small-thumbsup.gif

So it's like Marvel vs. Capcom...

Only with EA characters....

So Marvel vs. EA...

Only EA doesn't have any of their own characters...

So it's Marvel vs. Characters newly created by EA....

Only EA is having Marvel create the characters for them...

So it's Marvel vs. Characters newly created by Marvel.

Whee! Sounds like a wonderful lame concept to me...

You know, Marvel has such a rich, diverse selection of characters to choose from, ranging from the X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, not to mention those in the Spider-Man, Hulk and other family groups... There's absolutly no real reason to "create" new characters - that are very likely to suck @$$ - for a game (that is also very likely to suck @$$)... Why not use any of the hundreds of Marvel Heros and Villans that are already out there... Hell, Howard the Duck would probably be a better choice than these EA "creations"....

Or someone could finally give us the Marvel vs. DC fighting game that every real comic fan wants... I want to watch Batman kick Captain America's @$$ as often as possible...

Ian SaneMarch 15, 2005

I want to see Capcom get the DC licence and then make a kickass DC vs Capcom game that sh!ts all over this EA junk. Aside from being a great game it would add some freshness to the Capcom fighting game formula since they would have to create a lot of new characters for fans to learn.

People need to stop thinking this'll be anything like Marvel VS Capcom. reggiehead.gif

Maybe add some rap music...make most these new super heroes black...
