I would probably be interested if I didn't still have my Dreamcast hooked up for SF Rush 2049. Wasn't there several versions of some of these games (like Rush)? I wonder which builds will be brought over (or the basis for this compilation)?

    joeposhFebruary 16, 2005

I'll probably pick this one up just for the San Fransisco Rush games... to this day that remains one of my favorite racing series. The rest is just a bonus to me.

    Ian SaneFebruary 16, 2005

Ah. So this is why S.T.U.N. Runner was cut. This isn't a GOOD reason but it's a reason nonetheless.

I have a gut feeling this isn't going to be good because of the controls. In the arcade racing games use wheels while they use controllers on consoles. For arcade-to-home translations they usually alter the handling a bit to make it work better with a controller. If these are straight arcade ports they'll have unnatural controls on a controller. For example look at the Sprint games on the previous two Treasures. Both games use steering wheels in the arcades and are pretty much unplayable on the compilations as a result. If Midway just does a lazy port job like they've done with the previous Treasures these games are going to be near impossible to play.

The actual games here though are pretty good, especially Super Off Road. This could be really good if they put the effort into it.

    lmao, this is midway.
where's Crus'n, dont they have the rights to that? (or Williams)

    Ian SaneFebruary 16, 2005

"where's Crus'n, dont they have the rights to that?"

Wasn't Cruis'n USA published by Nintendo? I don't know about the other Cruis'n games but I remember seeing the Nintendo logo all over the original's arcade cabinet. It might just be because it was an "Ultra 64" game though.

    vuduFebruary 16, 2005

Wasn't it the Nintendo Ultra before it was the Nintendo 64? I don't remember it ever being the Ultra 64. However, I could be mistaken.

I'm almost certian Ian is correct... Ultra 64 seems to be pretty ingrained in my memory as well.

    vuduFebruary 16, 2005

Dang. I thought for sure it was Nintendo Ultra. I still have my old Nintendo Power's (from like issues 30 to 110) at my parents' house. I remember the January issue (the cover was mostly white) where the Nintendo 64 (Nintendo Ultra or Ultra 64, whichever the case may be) was unveiled. I'll have to check it out next time I go visit them.

    Bill AurionFebruary 16, 2005

Backs up case for "Ultra 64" and the fact that this game will fall where many port collections have fallen...

I'll probably pick it up sometime if only for RUSH...DAMN YOU MIDWAY FOR NOT MAKING ANOTHER...

    S-U-P-E-RTy Shughart, Staff AlumnusFebruary 16, 2005

    Conspicuously missing:
    Rush USA
Ultimate MK3 & MK4 (I guess it's just going to be racing themed, then?)

    Its in development.

Oh and I want this, but just because i love these 19.99 compilations... Wish it wasnt so Racing heavy to tell you the truth, I would have loved some of the Atari Arcade games from the 1990s... The FPS War, The 3D Gauntlet, and that 3D fighting game which the name totally just left my mind right now, you know the one with Lord Deimos and Pojo the Chicken?

    Bill AurionFebruary 16, 2005

(Oh what? *does some research* Go figure it's only for PS2 and Xbox...That means it'll suck...Thx Midway)

Dead and gone... as it should be. I loved pretty much every arcade racer for the N64 but that game was just horrible... no sense of speed whatsoever.

Perhaps they're stashing them as Goodies/pre-order incentives for the eventual MK7 or Midway's attempt at a Mortal-Kombat themed adventure title?

Seriously, UMK3 is where its at. I remember when MK3 came out in the arcade, and Scorpion was missing. I played with Liu Kang once, won a match, lost a match, and never touched it again. When UMK3 was announced and released, I went through quarters like nobody's business. What's Midway thinking right now?

    MattVDBFebruary 16, 2005

It seems like it was the Nintendo Ultra, as it would have been an attempt to follow through with the "super" extension. It was the next logical step. I can't find any documentation dictating that though, although I remember hearing that name being tossed around. The name Ultra 64 though was the more commonly used name for it, after a certain point. The name changed to Nintendo 64 just before it came out, so it seemed, as Cruis'n had the "Ultra 64" logo displayed in the arcade unit. So did KI Gold, if I recall correctly.

Crusin USA was a decent game at its time, The only proberly is that you would be at the last corner in first place, and suddenly then CPU's would catch up fast or suddenly a flock of cars would come out of nowere.

I was expecting more then 8 games thu

    S-U-P-E-RTy Shughart, Staff AlumnusFebruary 17, 2005

I hope it supports LAN, like eight players like the arcade versions did.

I wish rubber banding had died. That's the feature I hate the most about Burnout 2 and MKDD.

    Ian SaneFebruary 17, 2005

"I hope it supports LAN, like eight players like the arcade versions did. "

Cool idea but we all know there's no way in hell they would implement that in the Cube version. And if these are straight arcade ports wouldn't you need a system and game for each player? There's no split-screen in the arcade versions so you can't mix and match like Mario Kart: DD. Hell that just opens up all sorts of questions regarding multiplayer for this game. If there's no split-screen option these are going to SUCK. One player racing games aren't very fun.

    S-U-P-E-RTy Shughart, Staff AlumnusFebruary 17, 2005

At 20 bucks (or less second-hand), I wouldn't be totally unopposed to buying two copies - I'd probably get the XBox version, which'd be more likely to have LAN support, I'm sure. If it doesn't, though, total downer.

Maybe, Maybe not, we got MK Deception eventually

    UrkelFebruary 18, 2005

Unlike MAT2, it appears that virtually every game in this collection is a quality one. But I'm going to have to agree with Ian and be skeptical here.

The Super Sprint games in the first two collections were virtually unplayable due to the controls. I suppose they could have altered the controls for a console experience, but that would require effort, wouldn't it? Why should I expect this collection to be any different?

The other issue I have is that arcade games, as is, don't always translate into a good console experience. I have many, many fond memories of Gauntlet for the NES, but found Gaunlet I and II in the other Midway collections pointless and boring due to infinite lives. I fear SF: Rush may suffer a similar fate since part of what I liked the most about the N64 game was that it was practically an adventure game that encouraged exploration and finding hidden keys. The N64 version had a practice mode without any time limit, which allowed you to explore the vast tracks at your leisure. I wasted so many hours just experimenting with crazy jumps and trying to find shortcuts, but if MAT3 tries to stay faithful to the arcade (and I'm sure it will), I can kiss my favorite part of Rush goodbye.

Oh well. I'm still probably going to buy this. Because I'm and idiot. And because I'm hoping it will include more hilariously bad promotional videos like they did with MK2. "WHAT WAS ONCE A RAGING FIRESTORM HAS TURNED INTO AN INFERNO... of profit."

    Bartman3010February 22, 2005

My question is, how are those games and the extra content they stuff on these complimations gonna fit on a GCN disc?

Obviously with the vast amount of space on the PS2/X Box discs, thats no prob, but the GCN version? Hurm.....

    darknight06February 22, 2005

    2 Discs?

    NephilimFebruary 23, 2005

8 30-50meg games can fit onto a gamecube dvd easly
