Actress Monica Bellucci and heavy metal band Godsmack will be featured in Ubisoft’s awaited game.

Ubisoft today announced that Monica Bellucci, perhaps most recognizable as Persephone from the Matrix movies, lends her voice in Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. She plays the role of Kaileena, unwilling servant of the “Empress of Time,” and should bring out the sexual appeal of the character.

Godsmack is also contributing its talents with two songs, “I Stand Alone,” and “Straight Out of Line.” Warrior Within is notably darker than The Sands of Time, and the songs’ edgier style lends to the new image well. Godsmack’s jams will stand in contrast to the rest of the game’s orchestrated soundtrack composed by Inon Zur.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within launches later this month.

COME PLAY THIS GAME WE'RE METAL AND WE'RE HIP

LOTS O FUN

I'd like to know if it's a worthy game, first of all.

Modern music has NO place in a game about ancient Persia. NONE. There's no way I'm buying this game. I don't reward compromising artistic integrity for celebrity endorsement.

KnowsNothingNovember 08, 2004

You're not buying this game because of a band that's featured in it? I hope this game is stellar so you can suffer.

I see what you're saying, and I agree with what you're saying, except for the fact that if the game is really good that you shouldn't buy it. If the whole soundtrack was like this, I can understand, but Godsmack is only contributing two songs., which I think is entirley tolerable.

Oh it will be, don't worry.

joshnickersonNovember 08, 2004

I was playing Mario Tennis at Gamestop today when the PoP demo popped up on the nearby Xbox kiosk and started blasting Godsmack. I just looked at it, shrugged my shoulders, and then turned down the volume so I could hear the music in the Peach Dome court more clearly.
So basically a game about the ancient middle east is going to have a goth-rock soundtrack? Riiight...

Its a fantasy adventure game for crying out loud - I don't think Lawrence of Arabia is a secret unlockable character.

The first game was great (albeit brief) so I'm certainly interested in this one.

DjunknownNovember 08, 2004

I guess once you receive overwhelming critical appraise (Remember GDC and DICE?), you feel a bit more...bold in some aspects.

But how about that Monica Belluci? Do all Italian women look like that when they're 40? If so, I might take an excursion to Italy and go wife-hunting when I'm 35 or so...

Sadly I missed the PoP hype, I should give the original a whirl.

Hostile CreationNovember 08, 2004

Monica Bellucci is gorgeous, and there's no problem with voice-acting, but Godsmack? Christ, not only does it not belong in the game, but damn does their music suck.

Yet another random sequel. I don't see why people are complaining about Nintendo making too many sequels, theirs generally being pretty different from the previous games, when Ratchett and Clank and Splinter Cell both have three games within a few years and the original Prince of Persia game this generation came out what? A year ago?
I expect this to be as good as the first, perhaps, but to have nothing better to offer.

"Expects Paladin to come in and blast it to high hell."

My reputation precedes me. face-icon-small-smile.gif

All I want to know is if the damn game has subtitles, or if Ubi chose to cop out like insensitive bastards once more.

NinGurl69 *hugglesNovember 08, 2004

I really don't want any "here's how to get out of here" spoiler cutscenes. And I don't want the combat to be easy repetitive hack-n-slash, cuz Prince looks way too powerful for a lot of those lesser guards. If things like those are addressed properly, i'll pick this game up.

Infernal MonkeyNovember 08, 2004

The next PoP game will have the Prince walking around Neo-New York with an iPod slashing dead presidents in bullet time.

Hostile CreationNovember 08, 2004

Haha, awesome Reggie-link, Infernal. That deserves the lolz, I think.

InfinitysEndNovember 08, 2004

Hey guys, I don't know who's wrong here, but you say Inon Zur is composing the rest of the soundtrack, whereas in my new issue of Play, they distinctly say that Stuart Chatwood (who composed the Sands of Time) was signed on again to do the sequel...Just thought I'd pass that info on...

KDR_11kNovember 08, 2004

IMO the entire album Faceless (which includes both songs mentioned here) is Godsmack's worst work yet, comparable to Metallica's St. Anger (well, actually a bit worse) in suckiness. Throwing it at any game is detrimental to the game.

Paladin: If the demo is any indication, no (hell, I couldn't even reconfigure the gamepad in the demo properly!). The pirate woman spoke pretty clearly but I couldn't make a single word the prince said.

Hostile CreationNovember 08, 2004

For the record, InfinitysEnd, your avatar rocks.

mmortal03November 09, 2004

They must have thought that if it worked with The Scorpion King, it would work with Prince of Persia...

PaLaDiNNovember 09, 2004

If the game doesn't have subtitles, I hope it crashes, burns and drags Ubisoft down into a black hole of fiscal despair.

Lost101November 09, 2004

First of all POP WW is going to be an amazing game. The first one was incredible and the second looks to be just as good, with plenty of combat upgrades, find an interview with the guys on IGN or something and youll see what Im talking about.

I think the whole dark thing has its place, it fits the story and about fate wanting to kill the prince. But I think they exagerated it a bit... yes, to make it more marketable. Sorry we live in a world where a great game wont sell well on merit alone. Just ask.... the first POP game. Too bad too, I loved the fantasy world in the first one.. the romance, the storytelling. This game will be slightly tarnished by going out of its way to include God Smack (which I bet dollars to donuts will be mentioned on the cover) but it is still a great game being developed by a gifted team. Ill definately pick it up and anyone would be a fool to pass it up just because it looks a tad gimmicky.

KDR_11kNovember 09, 2004

I guess I could get german subtitles if I buy it here... If I had any interest in the game, that is.
