This Just In: DS Lite Popular in Japan DS

Japanese launch of the pink version of the system causes lineups at retailers, riots, melees, widespread panic, and general chaos. OK, maybe just lineups.

Some new pictures posted on the website of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu demonstate how much of a phenomenon the DS Lite has become in Japan. Today's launch of the "Noble Pink" version of the system resulted in lineups at retailers that stretched down blocks and around corners.

Nintendo at San Diego Comic-Con

Square Characters in Mario Hoops DS

Square will add some of its own characters to the upcoming DS sports title.

Did you think Mario sports games were only for Mario characters? Not when Square is involved. The official Japanese site for Mario Hoops revealed five new characters that come directly from the Final Fantasy universe.

Black Mage

Moogle

Sabotender (Cactuar)

Instead of going with specific characters from later games in the series, they opted to go with more generic jobs like those seen in the first game on the NES.

First Pokemon Diamond/Pearl WiFi Details DS

The latest issue of CoroCoro magazine just came out in Japan and it revealed some of the first details of how the Nintendo WiFi Connection will be incorporated in the new Pokemon titles.

The game will be called Oto wo Tsunagou! Gunpey Reverse.

Nintendo Will Open Subsidiary in Korea

Nintendo will establish a new branch to expand its presence in South Korea.

Asia Times Online reports that Nintendo will found a new wholly owned subsidiary in Seoul, South Korea next week on July 7th with an initial worth of 25 billion won (roughly $26 million).

For a company that seemed to have a great relationship with Nintendo during the GameCube's lifespan, Namco's been oddly quiet regarding the Wii. With the exception of Final Furlong, no other titles have been revealed by the company. Opera Browser DS Release Date Revealed DS

The browser will hit Japan soon, but there isn't any new info for the U.S. date.

Japanese gamers hoping to go online with their DS found out the Opera Browser's release date today, currently set for July 24th. It'll retail for 3,800 yen, and will be packaged with a memory expansion pack.

European and U.S. gamers are out of luck for right now, though, as new info on the browser won't be available until it hits the Land of the Rising Sun which is, once again, July 24th.
