Swingerz Golf

Come check out some totally different impressions of Swingerz Golf!

Let me start off by telling you the truth. I went into Swingerz Golf thinking it was going to be another “crappy extreme golf” game. I was almost completely wrong: this game is neither “crappy” nor “extreme,” but it is “golf.” Everybody says don’t judge a book by its cover, and Swingerz Golf is a perfect example of that. One look at the box art and “z” in the title and you’d think it would be a bad game. The truth is that it is quite fun and actually innovative too.

Swingerz Golf is very much akin to Mario Golf. It’s a very good golf game without the realistic sense of something like Tiger Woods. What makes the game so great is its innovative use of the C-stick. To swing your club you first pull the C-stick back and then when the power meter reaches the point where you want to swing you push it forward. You have to try to keep the stick as straight as possible when pushing it forward, or else you shot will go awry. The on screen C-stick diagram has a pink section in the middle and you have to keep the center of the stick within that area to make a good shot. The size of the pink zone changes depending on the club you are using.

Graphically, Swingerz Golf looks good. The models are well designed and have a lot of character to them. The animation is smooth with no framerate problems. The courses are also well designed and look very pretty, plus you can play golf in any of the 4 seasons. There are also weather effects, but I did not see any of these at the Cube Club. I cannot judge the audio because I couldn’t hear it over the pumping music in the club. Overall, Swingerz Golf looks like a great game to play by yourself, or better yet with friends. As a bonus, you only need one controller to play with 4 people (though you can still play with 4 controllers), which is a very nice feature for a game like this.
