At less than half of the cost of an official Pro Controller, HYCARUS has brought quite the nice alternative with its newest controller for Switch. With a light weight design very similar to the PS4’s DualShock 4, it also features rumble, motion and wireless play.

While the battery life doesn’t reach the exceptional heights of the Pro controller, it does provide around 7 hours of play on a single charge. I was surprised at both the comfort level and how fast I came accustomed to using it over my Nintendo Pro controller.

Some bizarre aspects occurred when using the controller, however. For one, the L, R, ZL and ZR buttons are actually named incorrectly and mimic the button assignment of the Xbox One controller. The back shoulder buttons (like the DualShock 4) have an analog feel, even though analog buttons aren’t supported on the Switch. Lastly, and most importantly, the HYCARUS’ controller lacks the ability to turn on the Switch from sleep mode, so in order to use it you must use a different controller of some sorts to turn it on.

While there are some caveats, I still have very much enjoyed my play time with the HYCARUS Nintendo Switch Bluetooth Controller. Using it for my normal gaming sessions is quite comfortable, and with its light weight and relatively good battery life it has already been a great controller for playing some multiplayer matches in Rocket League and Mario Kart. If you are on a budget and are looking for a nice Pro controller replacement, I would highly recommend the HYCARUS Nintendo Switch Bluetooth Controller.
