Here's everything we know about the revival of Kid Icarus.

The last time Kid Icarus had a new game release, it was in black-and-white on the original Game Boy. Nintendo is sticking with a handheld to resurrect the series, but now Pit, Palutena, Medusa, and the Eggplant Wizard will appear not only in color but also as polygonal models on a stereoscopic 3D display. Kid Icarus: Uprising is the first game developed by Project Sora, the new studio founded by Masahiro Sakurai of Kirby, Meteos, and Super Smash Bros fame.

Uprising is a third-person shooter with independent movement and aiming control, similar to the Sin & Punishment games. Flying sections play like an on-rails shooter in which you can steer Pit to avoid enemies and projectiles, while also shooting arrows to clear a path. Most of the game, however, seems to take place on the ground, where Pit has full 3D movement in the environment (unlike Sin & Punishment). In these sections, you have both ranged and melee attacks, and camera control is directed on the touch screen.

Nintendo is promising that this game will appeal to both novice gamers as well as experienced players. There are numerous power-ups and upgrades that change your abilities, and weapons can be selected before each level to affect your playing style. Pit's basic weapons, at least for the ground levels, include a blade for balanced combat, claws with limited range that enhance movement speed, and the Orbitar, a ranged weapon that fires two shots whose damage increases with distance.
