I received an invitation this morning to something called the "Grand Smash Brothers Tournament". Does anyone know anything about it?

I'm on my way to the "Grand Smash Tournament" now! Wish me luck! Though, I am not exactly sure what I am going to be doing...

What do you all think of this? Hints of a DS Smash Brothers? An inside joke from an NoA PR person?

Were they hinting at Mega-Man, Geno and Little Mac as fighters?

Strange, but funny. The suspense!

First, damn you Nintendo... I had to sign up for Twitter for Professor Layton.

Second - since the Professor left, it would seem to me that he wouldn't be in the next Smash Bros.

No, don't listen. Do we know the legitimacy of this twitter page? Remember the Metroid Twitter page from E3 09 and retro announcement? That was total bull **** too.

Interesting - is there any proof this TopHatProfessor is an actual Nintendo promotion?

Latest update tells me there's a good chance this isn't Nintendo.

>TopHatProfessorAlright, good night everyone. I am really beginning to feel the wine I had with supper! Perhaps it's best I go to sleep now. Rest up!<

IGN spoke like it had been a confirmed Nintendo promotion. Maybe it isn't. I'll try to see what I can find on it.

Doesn't a glass of wine appear as one of the food items in Smash Brothers?

That would have to mean that it was used in a game before Smash. Maybe Earthboud used it as a health item? Maybe that's why Nintendo won't let EB be released here! Fear from MADD and those other groups that forced Beer Pong to become Pong Toss on WiiWare. ;)

Smash Brothers has original items created for the game. Beam Sword, Homerun Bat, Fan, the food, Capsule, etc. were never in any other games.

There actually is a bar in Earthbound that was changed to a cafe in the North American release, but it is still obvious that it's a bar. Nobody goes to a cafe to wallow in sorrow and cry into their cappuccino.

I did in Portland. It was my happy place. I don't really go to bars alone for some reason. Maybe I should try it some time. Though I prefer to do things with company. Watch movies, go to restaurants, go shopping, play in the arcade or a pool hall. I just prefer to have friends with me. Maybe that's why I never meet anyone nice. Maybe all my weird friends and I chase any potential gals away before they have a chance to adapt to me. Or maybe none of them would have worked out with me if they did find us too weird.

I may be oversimplifying things a bit, but I'm pretty sure mentioning alcohol in a game gets it an automatic "T" rating.  I'll seriously be surprised if Nintendo is officially using this as a promotion for the game/series.

You could just visit the Twitter website to view updated.  Or subscribe to someone's feed using your favorite RSS program.

IGN speaks of it as if it is an official Nintendo promotion for the Diabolical Box which is releasing. They don't cite how they know it is legit, though.

I guess someone could e-mail Nintendo about it. I'm sure they'd willingly shoot it down if it is not legit.

No reply yet...

But then I couldn't respond to the Professor's riddles.

It's not my fault you're a whore.

It's my mom's fault - she didn't love me enough.

Anywhoo, the "Professor" had a Q&A today - Someone asked him if he was a Nintendo employee.

Who else would be typing up my tweets, @jcfletcher? I'm certainly not an imposter so I hope that answers your question!

He also kinda answered two of my questions.  Someone else asked the same question I asked - he answered them.  Then, he answered my question, but replied to @UncleBob instead of @TheUncleBob. :(

He says he played Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk and "adored Hotel Dusk." :)

NOA says Professor Layton twitter account is fake

So it turns out that this is a fake. Does anybody recall the E3 Retro account and the supposed announcement.

No, they says it's not operated by Nintendo. They don't say anything about it not belonging to Level-5 (who develop the game, publish it in Japan, and own the IP). I still think it's just a fake run by a fan though.
