Topic: Field notes: what Japanese amiibo actually cost in 2026

I have been buying amiibo out of Japan for a while and the pricing there does not work the way it does on a Western peg. Writing down what I actually found, in case anyone else is looking at the Air Riders wave and wondering why the numbers look odd.

1. There is no Japanese list price.
Nintendo's own Japanese product pages give amiibo as オープン価格 (open pricing) - Nintendo publishes no suggested retail price and each shop sets its own. So "the Japanese price of an amiibo" is meaningless unless you name the shop and the date. It is also why the same figure can sit at three different numbers across Japanese retailers on the same afternoon.

2. The Kirby Air Riders tier moved the ceiling.
Announced prices, tax included:
- Kirby & Warp Star / Bandana Waddle Dee & Wing Star - 6,600 yen each, released 20 November 2025
- King Dedede & Tank Star - 7,700 yen, released 2 July 2026
- Sword Kirby & Dragoon / Noir Dedede & Hydra - 8,250 yen each, announced March 2026

An 8,250-yen amiibo costs more than plenty of Switch software. These are a rider plus a machine, with the rider removable and swappable, so it is a bigger product than the old single figures - but it is still a real jump.

3. Secondhand undercuts retail on figures that are still current.
This is the part that surprised me. On 30 August 2026 I found a boxed Kirby & Warp Star at 4,680 yen - 29% under the 6,600-yen launch price, on a figure from the current wave, not a clearance leftover. Japanese secondhand is not just for out-of-print stuff.

4. Region: same spec, but Nintendo will not promise it.
Nintendo Japan's own support answer to "can amiibo sold overseas be used in Japan?" is that overseas amiibo are the same specification, but depending on the data being saved they may not be usable, and operation is not guaranteed. Read that in both directions before importing. In practice it reads like a warranty statement rather than a technical block - the NFC chip is the same and the packaging is what differs - but the game doing the writing is the variable, not the toy.

5. They are cheap to ship, which is the actual argument for importing them.
One boxed amiibo quoted about US$17.44 economy air to the United States and US$13.49 EMS to Singapore on 30 August 2026. To the UK, Germany, Australia and Canada, three boxes cost the same as one - the first weight band swallows them. So if you are importing at all, importing one figure is the worst-value way to do it.

I can see why it looks that way, but the information is actually useful. The OneMall links are theirs, sure, but the pricing notes and Nintendo references seem legitimate. The real question is whether any of the figures or compatibility details are inaccurate.

You think the information is useful? In what way? Why do you think the pricing notes and Nintendo references are legitimate if the OneMall links aren't? To me, those are the real questions. I just don't see why the figure and compatibility details matter. If they are inaccurate, so what?

I think buying amiibo is a questionable endeavor these days in general, so while I respect the potential effort of the OP write up, it’s not going to sway me to purchase them in any region.

Yep. I wanted to see how far down this rabbit hole went. Would another spambot come in to defend the second? Would the second respond to my response? It doesn't seem like it is going to go any further at this point.
