Guess who works at Midway now
« on: December 25, 2003, 06:36:48 AM »
In case you missed it, John Romero is working at Midway now. That's old news, though - the lead designer of the Fallout games, whatshisname, quit Interplay (probably because he wasn't getting paid lol) to go work with Romero on a new Gauntlet game. He was working on Fallout 3.

so yeah they pretty much cancelled christmas

Romero went from making one of the most influential videogames in history to being a Midway employee- oh what a tangle web we weave.

"DAIKATANA WILL MAKE YOU ITS BITCH!"

Seriously, I hear Romero has toned down his "insane" but time will tell if that's really the case. Usually, I would be pretty "meh" about another gauntlet, but if we have the guy from Fallout working on it (I don't remember his real name, just his interweb name of 'Ropekid'), it has SERIOUS potential.

Sucks that Interplay couldn't pay him or whatever problems they were having. :(

Also, I think it's worth pointing out that while Midway often deserved a lot of the knocks it got, it isn't 100% tripe. See: the Rush and Artic/Hydro/Offroad Thunder arcade games. You clowns made them shut down their arcade division, NICE GOING GUYS :(

Brian Fargo. I believe that is his name.

Anyway, i would have though if two forces of such opposite power would end up annilating each other and what ever was around it.

Real time Fallout style game that runs off a controllor seamlessly in third person using the Fallout phyiscs. Not fallout Tactics which ended up somewhat cumberson, although that wasn't a bad game in itself. Lock on targeting and a full RPG world to run around in. Yeah I am dreaming. Midway...

Romero said this:
The reason Fallout 3 was canceled wasn't because Josh Sawyer quit, but because Black Isle was having major cash problems thanks to Interplay thanks to Titus.

I hired Josh about a month ago and he's the Lead Designer on my new game Gauntlet for PS2/XBOX.

If my memory serves, Brian Fargo was the creator of the series (and Wasteland) but Josh here was the guy in charge of the Black Isle crew on Fallout 2, am I rite?

Now if they hire George Broussard and Peter Molyneux, we will never see video games ever again.

Black Isles been going down the toilet lately... I suppose Bioware can still make a good D&D RPG...

Just to clarify: The guy's name is JE Sawyer. Full names Joshua Eric. He was the lead designer on Fallout 3 at one point, about two months in 2003 (after the departure of Chris Avellone). He was not involved with FO1 and 2 at all - he joined Black Isle in 1999, i.e. after Fallout 1 and 2 were made. JE Sawyer is, indeed, Rope Kid.

Brian Fargo was the founder of Interplay, had really nothing to do with Fallout (the "Brian Fargo Presents" blurb at the beginning was basically just a "thank you" from the devs for greenlighting the project). He left the company after clashes with Interplay's owner Titus Interactive in January 2002, and is now heading a company called inXile.
