Topic: Calibrating video

Is there any game that provides a good image to calibrate a television to the GCN's video output? Something like this: http://www.jasc.com/monitor1.asp [sorry for the lack of formatting, but, you know, it sucks]. The Splinter Cell demo comes close but doesn't provide a column that goes from pure black to white. If this is the best that's available I can use it, but I wondered if anyone knew of something better.

I'd suggest using a calibration DVD to use for calibrating TVs for best picture quality, if that's possible.

A decent plain & simple program is the THX Optimizer on the setup menu on many THX-certified DVDs.   However, since the optimizer tests are good for the DVD it's featured in, I'd only use the Optimizer on DVDs that are known to have the best video quality.

For something that can provide more consistent calibration tools, there's Digital Video Essentials.  DVE has tests for both video and audio for surround sound systems.  There are many online stores that sell it for under $20.

I have my TV connected to my PC, so I have it well calibrated for that. But I was looking for something for the Cube.

yeah, unfortunately it's not easy for us color perfectionists to find the right settings for the Cube...so far, the only thing i've been able to use was in Resident Evil...the black border around the picture could be used for pure black, while pure white is kinda hard...in Jill's scenario, if you examine the combat knife in the menu and turn it so that it's reflecting the light source, a good part of it will be pure white.

if you'll go to the 'monitor adjustment' in the options menu, you'll have a grayscale with some midtones and several columns of colors with corresponding intensity...it's no SMPTE color bars but it's a workable solution for adjusting saturation.

if you use DScaler with a Flyvideo 2000 then i can give you my settings (which i'm going to perfect this afternoon).

Use the digital video essentials DVD, it is a great product.

SSX3 has some image calibrating stuff. I think it's for adjusting the contrast and the colors, not sure.. but i can check it
